Hey guys,

We are working on a friends 72 Camaro. He swapped in a low mileage AGR box from his 67 LeMans. Now that he has swapped it into the Camaro he is getting an asymmetric effort out of the steering gear. The box worked perfectly in the LeMans it was pulled from. Actually both PS systems worked perfect before the swap.

The rest of the components in the Camaro are a KRC cast iron pump & remote reservoir. Ive tried searching but only come up with leads to worn out parts. Anyone else run into anything like this?

Thanks in advance,
Shane

Shane,
The only time I've seen this, is with a worn or damaged box. You get lack of boost in one direction only. Sometimes it get's better when the system warms up.

Check the steering input shaft for a bind, also loosen the idler arm at the frame and re-tighten, let it self-center. Just changing the box may have mis-aligned the center link.

That's all I can think of assuming alignment is correct.

Thanks David,

He also had some discrepancies in his front end alignment (which may be the culprit) and I'll get the above to him too.

my car is the one in question. thanks for the help, David. the camber was -5*R and -1.5*L. i have since put both sides at -1* but i havent driven the car. got side tracked with the race yesterday. i also just purchased this to double check my caster

like shane mentioned the box is a very very low mileage agr that come outa my lemans. was working fine at the time of removal. my p/s pump is a KRC with a 1.5 flow valve. box is bled properly.

i will test tonight and post back if not cure. thanks again. tommy
