A few weeks ago I finally started tearing down my 70 mustang and restoring it again. I am building the car for mainly the street but maybe some drag strip time. I bought the car about 13 years ago from the orginal owner and restored it once, but I was only 17 so I was not as smart as I am today so i thought I would give it another try.
This is what it looked like before when i pulled into my garage.

These picture show my homemade frame/body leveler. The entire car is level and square, which was kinda hard for me to believe but as luck has it, it was never wrecked. Anyways this first stage so I can add/build some custom rear cross member, sub-frames, roll cage (8-point), minitub, floorpans and recessed firewall.

Oh and I plan on this Mustang to be LS1 powered with a 6 speed. I am trying to think of a name to call this build so next month we I meet with a graphic design artist to make me some renderings I will have a name.
It does not look like much now, but you gotta start somewhere...
Currently I am thinking of calling it "Defector", since it will be a ford powered by Chevy, what do yall think?

Uh oh, let's see if you get flamed for putting a Chevy in a Ford. :enguard:

Sounds like it's gonna be one sweet "restoration." :twothumbs

The LS1 is a mistake in political terms only. Great engine...couldn't be any tighter fit in the Mustang engine bay than a 351W based motor. Are you leaving the oem shock towers or changing to an aftermaket frontend? There is a lot to be said for whacking the stock frontend completely...less weight, more room, better geometry...insert improvement here. It is a bit more work, however. As far as your going on that car it wouldn't be that much more, though. Cool piece...good luck!

Yeah I plan on throwing the shock tower in the trash. That should make some more room under the hood. But I have heard many bad things about the Mustang II front end conversion. But I think it will be OK for a street car that seems some drag strip time. As far as Pro touring the car, I don't think that will be in the future for this car.

So there must be no way I could talk you in to using an 03 Cobra motor w/ a six speed to prevent the cross breeding???!!!
Blower, aluminum,DOHC,Ford, six speed. Did the hypnotizing work?

Yeah, I do like those ls motors too.

Naw I have put a lot of thought into this project and I want a LSX based motor for several reasons.

1. Cost, it is far cheaper IMO, to build a LSX motor.
2. I believe, i might be wrong the LSX motor is lighter than any ford since it is all aluminium.
3. Cam selection is far better and cheaper.
4. From a tunability stand point, with the invention of EFI Live and HP Tuners, the LSX based fuel injection is very tunable. I think the only Ford based product costs alot more and does not offer the features I am looking for, at least from what I have seen.
5. I want to go with a carb style intake with a carb style TB and add some coil covers to keep the "Old School" look.

Progress pics. I removed the passenger side torque box (I think that is what it is called. This will be the main mounting location for the cross members and sub frame connectors and roll cage. It was a B**** to get out!!! OH and the rear seat pans came into today, which is basically the only stock floorpan piece I am going to use, the rest I am going to TRY and make. As you can see there is some surface rust on the but nothing major thus far, besides the floor pans, which are going to be cut out. Basically giving the car a large dose of ChemoTheraphy to get the cancer (rust) gone.
