So I am building a Pro Touring 77 Monza. The driveline is still a tossup between the 283 as I have a solid forged rotating assembly and I possibly have access to an Aurora 4.0 V8 DOHC.
Basicly its a smaller version of the Northstar V8 from Caddy.
I have been reading up on them and have been working on using the DIs from the Aurora/N* for an add on ignition for all V8s.
Anyway I have decided to use Yellow as my last Monza was yellow sooooo.
Now my choices are simple fleet enamel , same with flattener to look like primer, single stage yellow with mica(pearl) added, or two stage yellow with pearl and say a different shade of pearl in the clear or should I use a yellow epoxy primer (I found one, but its and industrial epoxy primer and requires a special gun to shoot). If I use the fleet color I can take it to a Maaco type shop after body work and get it shot for cheap, with a guarantee.
OK so hows about some thoughts.
Thanks
Lee

I hqve been painting for 20 years I have only seen one maco job that looked good. the owner had them use custom color and do all the body. spending not the tipical 500 maco job he spend around 3000 back in 1990, came out of a maco shop in AZ. but it seemed to rock chip easy.

my two cents spend the cash on a nice paint job or don't have it painted.

yes. I now own a shop in IL. and would give you a quote. if you had me do the job I would stand be hind my work as long as you own the car.

Yeah I know several people gave me the buisness locally for thinking of using this guy but I have seen his paint work.
Its like"Maaco" its not a Maaco per se.
He used to work for a body shop and he got ticked when owner wouldnt let customers do thier own prep and let him shoot it (he ggot percentage of final finish booth time) and they only had 2 painters so he gets his share. BUT he wanted to do good work for people and let them handel the bad body work if they want paint ,they get paint.
He lays down some awesome finish work and will tell people if the prep isnt done.
He found an old shop and started renting it out and he has 4 bays that he will rent to local car enthusiasts so they can bring in thier own cars and work on them.
I have done body work on my own for years and my uncle has his own shop and been at for years and has the rep if it aint right it wont go.
I just dont have $3k for a paint job, my old Monza had the fleet jb buy my step uncle who buit that car for a cousin.
She gets out of school and he gets car back and I get it. Was it perfect ,no but being yellow you had to look for bad areas and yes it had a couple of drips but it gave it some character. This car will probably be driven about half the time to keep bugs worked out. And my truck the rest of the time.
I do think this car is going to have rock chips, scratches and dings.
If it doesnt get done in a booth it will get done in my driveway out in the open or maybe under a car port.
I really need color help , and a new job as I am looking right now or the Monza will never get started.
Color opinions?
