hi

I started doing a conversion from drum to disk but decided to replace the entire system when I had to replace the rear but that is another story.

I have a 1968 GTO

So far I have:
ATS AFX tall spindles
C5 calipers, rotors and pads
C5 stainless steel flex lines
05 GTO power brake boster and master cylinder
Complete GM A- body stainless steel disk conversion set from inline tube.

1) I still need the C5 caliper brackets does anyone have the part #'s for front & rear?

2) I ordered the tube set before I changed my mind to do a C5 setup do I need adapters to go from the C5 flex lines to the hard lines? (I would look, but I am in Korea at my duty station) :hmm:

3) can I change the fittings on the hard lines to match the C5 stuff?

4) The Inline kit does not include a adjustable proportioning valve, I think it has a distribution block, do I need a adjustable proportioning valve?

5) Do I need additional bolts or brackets for the front or rear?

6) I need to order a 9" new rear, is there anything I need to tell them about brackets or the E-brake? How do I get the e-brake to work on the C5 caliper? Car is auto and will get a 4L80e or 6l80/6l90 (auto).

7) Should I use the original 68 GTO pedals or get a set from 04-06 GTO automatic?

8) am I missing anything else?

I am trying to salvage what parts I have but I think that I made my life more difficult with the Inline tube set.

Thanks

Josh

1) I still need the C5 caliper brakets does anyone have the part #'s for front & rear? With the AFX spindles you do not need mounting brackets...Do you mean the pad cage/abutments?

2) I ordered the tube set before I changed my mind to do a C5 setup do I need adapters to go from the C5 flex lines to the hard lines? (I would look, but I am in Korea at my duty station) :hmm: That must suck...being in Korea that is. Just used standard braided lines with 10mm banjos.

3) can I changed the fittings on the hard lines to match the C5 stuff? No need to change, see above reply.

4) The Inline kit does not include a adjustable proportioning valve, I think it has a distribution block, do I need a adjustable proportioning valve? Yes you do or plan on kissing dash everytime you stop...you could use a 3rd gen Camaro disc/disc prop/combo valve. I have used them with no adjustable type with great success.

5) Do I need additional bolts or brackets for the front or rear? ?? Clarify please, for lines or caliper mounting?

6) I need to order a 9" new rear, is there anything I need to tell them about brackets or the E-brake? How do I get the e-brake to work on the C5 caliper? Car is auto and will get a 4L80e or 6l80/6l90 (auto). If it where my job i'd have them mount standard GM flange ends w/large ford bearings (Moser) and run 4th gen Camaro rear discs. Have them decrease the axle wheel mounting flange to backing plate mounting flange (outer"F" to outer "D") distance by 1/8".

7) Should I use the original 68 GTO pedals or get a set from 04-06 GTO automatic? Get both and modify stock using the 04-06 as a template.

8) am I missing anything else? keep your head down and don't throw stones? be safe.

1) yes, The item that the calipers sit it, that looks like a cage or basket, they are $30 - $40 each and have part #'s for the front & rear. GM calls them a bracket. The calipers could directly bolt to the spindle but Tyler? advised me to do it the right way and use the bracket that the caliper normally sits in.

2) Do the Corvette stainless steel flex lines have 10mm banjos?
What do I need to say or look if I need to order new stainless steel flex lines?

3) good to know.

4) ok, I will look into that.

5) Bolts and brackets to mount the caliper brackets/baskets to the spindle. I should have all clips for the brake lines, as I got a kit from Inline Tube, not sure on how the clips mount, do they need bolts to?

6) I emailed Frank at Prodigy/Gpsuperstore to order a rear and I am now going with a 12 Bolt with Ford Torino ends from Moser. I was planning on running the C5 1997- 2004 Corvette calipers, disks, pads and rotors out back as that is what will be out front and the same PBR family the power brake boster and master cyclinder came from. Do the recommendations for the 9" still apply?

7) Ok, good to know, I will get on locating a set.

Thanks, now I have some homework to do.

2) Do the Corvette stainless steel flex lines have 10mm banjos?
What do I need to say or look if I need to order new stainless steel flex lines? Yes they are, but the hard line end you have are not the bubble flare that Corvette uses, I suggest sell these and get the standard flare with 10mm ends. No need to mess with the hard line.
3) good to know.

4) ok, I will look into that.

5) Bolts and brackets to mount the caliper brackets/baskets to the spindle. I should have all clips for the brake lines, as I got a kit from Inline Tube, not sure on how the clips mount, do they need bolts to? The hard line retainment clips or for the flex line? Hard line will use clips that pop into the frame. Flex lines will use brackets that bolt to frame using 5/16" tap bolts.

6) I emailed Frank at Prodigy/Gpsuperstore to order a rear and I am now going with a 12 Bolt with Ford Torino ends from Moser. Do the recommendations for the 9" still apply? Good, the 12 bolt Moser could be fitted with the chevy pattern end that uses large Ford style bearings and seals. Moser part number 7900 and bearing 9MTR, Frank should know whats best. 4th gen rear calipers and backing will match the C5 fronts nicely and its a breeze to install.

7) Ok, good to know, I will get on locating a set. Don't forget the park brake cables too. Stock 4th gen or custom 1" longer than stock Lokar work

ok to sum everything up so far:

1) GM part number for the bracket/basket front 12455799 & rear 12455800.
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com PRICE: $31.98

2) I am keeping the Corvette stainless steel flex lines.

3) I need new hard lines with a the standard flare and 10mm ends.
Who should I order the kit from? I tried to explain this when I ordered from Inline Tube but it did not work out.

4) A3rd gen Camaro disc/disc prop/combo valve is recommended.
From who should I obtain one or should I get a generic adjustable proportioning/combo valve?

5) I need the brackets for the flex lines and the 5/16" tap bolts.
Where should I get those?

6) I am waiting for Frank to get a final quote from Moser on the rear ::

33 spline 12 bolt with performance cover, Ford Torino end, ratio 3.93 with a Truetrac. This includes the perches and or leaf spring mounts The Disk brake bolt pattern needs to be 5x120mm (same as Chevy 5 x 4 3/4") for a C5 1997 -2004 Corvette. It needs to have part # 8259 wheel studs corvette 7/16"-20 x 1 3/4" .475" knurl $17.50/10 to match the ones used on the ATS AFX front spindles. What about powder coating the entire unit black.

You recommended: 4th gen rear calipers and backing will match the C5 fronts nicely and its a breeze to install.

I have the rear C5 corvette calipers can I use them instead? How different are they and you recomended 4th gen rear calipers for a Camaro?

7) Get a set of 04-06 GTO automatic pedals and modify stock using the 04-06 as a template.

I need the parking brake cable too. Stock 4th gen (camaro?) or custom 1" longer than stock or Lokar work. How do I order this? This will go from the 1968 Stock location to the C5 corvette caliper?

Thanks

Josh

ok to sum everything up so far:

1) GM part number for the bracket/basket front 12455799 & rear 12455800.
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com PRICE: $31.98 add $45 for shipping and pray it comes from the same dealership...

2) I am keeping the Corvette stainless steel flex lines. I'd recommend selling the Vette flex lines and buy universals with a 10mm banjo end. You might have a hard time finding a bubble flare hard line.

3) I need new hard lines with a the standard flare and 10mm ends.
Who should I order the kit from? I tried to explain this when I ordered from Inline Tube but it did not work out. That would be flex lines no the hard lines. I'd recommend keeping the hard lines and run universals like 3/8" female (which go to the hard line) to 10mm banjo(which go to the caliper). Unless you can find someone that could reflare your hard lines to 37* bubble flare. But then you would have to find the correct Corvette hard line flare nuts. This is why a good GM wrecking yard near is good.

4) A3rd gen Camaro disc/disc prop/combo valve is recommended.
From who should I obtain one or should I get a generic adjustable proportioning/combo valve? You could easily find one at a wrecker, I don't remember the GM part number.

5) I need the brackets for the flex lines and the 5/16" tap bolts.
Where should I get those? You can make them, or find them at a wrecker...the are the same as the ones used on a stock subframe.

6) I am waiting for Frank to get a final quote from Moser on the rear ::

33 spline 12 bolt with performance cover, Ford Torino end, ratio 3.93 with a Truetrac. That is up to you. It would have to be stripped down to PC. Forget the torino ends, have them use the GM ends (pn above) and use the big ford bearing(same as the Torino end) this way you can use the GM backing plates.

You recommended: 4th gen rear calipers and backing will match the C5 fronts nicely and its a breeze to install.

I have the rear C5 corvette calipers can I use them instead? How different are they and you recomended 4th gen rear calipers for a Camaro? The mounting styles are different. Sell the Vette calipers.

Stock 4th gen will work but you will have to modify the cable retention bracketry, You can call Lokar and have the cables made. There has been enough of us calling they should know what you'd need by now. But yes 1" longer so you can use the stock brackets.

Thanks no problem but im sure you are even more confused now..

Mr Quick ::

Here is the rear, the only issue is that a 3.93 ratio does not exist, I don't know to go with a 3.73 or a 4.11.

I want to use a 6L80 or 6L90 transmission as this is more of a street and very little Auto-X. The both transmission have the following ratios 4.03 / 2.36 / 1.53 / 1.15 / 0.85 / 0.67 / Reverse -3.06

The car has a 2.73? I think will be using 18" rims with 225/40/R18 or 215/40/R18 tires. I am not 100% on the tire sizes but it will very close as I want a tire with a big enough foot print but still have a decent side wall that I can't kill it to easily.

Which ratio should I chose, I am leaning towards the 3.73.

33 spline 12 bolt with performance cover, GM ends, Moser part number 7900 and bearing 9MTR with big ford bearings and GM backing plates, ratio 3.93 with a Truetrac. 3:73's would be perfect.

If you are going to auto x I'd recommend a larger tire, perhaps a 255 or evn 275. Sure you can go larger but it would hinder suspension articulation without a bit of frame and wheel well clearancing.

If I recall correctly the ATS and Vette uses a 12mm stud. They have the correct studs you need to install. The knurl will be up to their preference. Closer to larger would be best. nice job...plan before you leap.

Ok I have been trying to find parts and have a couple more questions:

for anyone who needs the to resolve the same issue I have with the hard lines:

universal stainless steel flex lines 3/8" female (which go to the hard line) to 10mm banjo (which goes to the caliper).
http://www.kore3.com/proddetail.php?prod=10122 $139.00 + S&H

A 3rd gen Camaro disc/disc prop/combo valve is recommended.
Will Willwoods knob style proportioning valve 260-8419 work?

What rotors do I use with the C5 corvette 1997 -2004 front calipers and 4th Gen Camaro 1993 -2002 rear calipers? I have four C5 Corvette 1997 -2004 rotors can I use them on the rear?

thanks

Josh
