Found a Firebird in an on-line junkyard not too far away that I'm wondering on the motor. Engine code is YC, I can't find that anywhere on-line. It's out of a '69 Firebird. Anyone have any ideas?

John has a search engine to help.

There's no YC code listed in 1969. It might be from one of several years. Look for a date code on the block, cast in by the distributor. It will be four digits, a letter and three numbers.

Actually, there is a '69 YC, it's a 290hp automatic block with a 2bbl and #46 heads. YC was used from 1965 through 1976, so it could also be a 350, a 389, or a 455. Could be any one of about 12 engines. You'll need to pull the date code from next to the distributor to be sure, but posting the head code from the center exhaust port could narrow it down. Once you have that date, look up the YC at www.classicalpontiac.com, under the Restore tab, then engine code database.

Is the date by the distributor on the drivers side or passengers side?

It's actually pretty much in the middle. If you can't see it, just post the head # from the center exhaust port. If it's 46, I think you've got the YC I posted earlier.
