I plan on installing DSE's subframe connectors and I have a question about the transmission crossmember. On the 69 I have now, I have to remove the crossmember to get the transmission out. It is a M-21 which is tiny compared to the 80e I am putting in Camaro number 2. To get the crossmember out, I have to loosen the subframe bolts as much as possible in order to get the clearance I need to get out the crossmember. My question is this. How do you get a crossmember in and out when you have connectors welded in? On the DSE connectors which run through and weld to the floorpan, I don't see a way that loosening the subframe bolts would help. Does the transmission have to go in with the motor, sliding in from the front? Do you have to pull the motor and trans in order to pull the trans? Am I missing something? Seems like there would be an easier way. Thanks

Unless I'm missing something here. You would just unbolt the subframe from the the connectors.

The DSE weld in connectors weld to the body. They have brackets that weld to the subframe and then bolt to the subframe connectors so you can remove the sub.

I would modify your trans crossmember so it can be removed without unbolting the original mounting points. Otherwise you have to beat the floor to death to remove it.

Hmmm, now that I think of it if you can shave the portion of the crossmember that hits the floor and weld in flat plate steel it should be more than strong enough and still be able to rotate and slide out.

Otherwise DSE has a trans mount that welds in ( which also stiffens the car ) and has a removable ( it just unbolts ) center section. This may help with ideas on how to modify your crossmember.
