Not sure if you guys read about the motorsprots park coming to the mobile, AL area. It got big press here in pensacola since the earnhardts are one of the investors. Supposed to be 1/4 strip, 7/10 oval nascar style, 3 mile road course, and a midget track. I'm looking forward to it if it all comes together. I saw about a month ago that a site has been selected. MollyOrange is up around Jackson. I'm gonna try to meet up with him when I get back from this deployment overseas.
It'll be nice to have a pro-touring contingent at Cruisin' the Coast too. Even though you are a drag racer it'll be nice to hang out with some like minded folks. I know it's not till October but I will hafta get the cuda going.
You know any machine shops up there?

StatisTraction, I have a Mopar 360 I need to get bored to .030 over and some oiling modifications done to the oil galley (tube). Also an oil crossover tube in the valley. I have instructions to do all that because I know most places are Chevy and Ford influenced. The small bloc Mopar has some issues with oiling when you go big.
I have a forged rotating assembly, 4" stroke crank, shouldn't be any clearance issues, and a D1-SC ProCharger centrifugal SC.
I am in a strange and distant land right now but my battalion gets back to Gulfport in about a month and I would like get the block machined and have the engine assembled not long after. I have been saving for the other parts and will be ordering everything to complete the engine the week I get back or before on the parts that will need some lead time to get there.
So I guess the works if they can do it. Machining and assembly. I would put it together myself if it was just a rebuild but I would rather have someone that does it for a living tackle this one.
I'd like to get up there and talk to some machine shops. I know it's nearly impossible to do a ballpark figure on machine work. Machine shops on the coast are more trouble than what they're worth.

Oh, and welcome Chevella. This is a pretty good site, glad to see more folks from MS on here.

He certainly sounds capable, StatisTraction. Are you aware if he is familiar with Mopars. Alot of guys say they all bolt together the same and while that is true, the small mopar does have oil system issues that would need to be addressed. I can get him the information on how to go about that, no problem.
Now all I have to do is wait for that plane ride back home!

I have a 77 camaro 388/w 6speed richmond, my rear is also a mess I am now replacing an old posi and changing ring and pinion this weekend. I bought a detriot true trac I want to see if they are anygood, Alot of the guys on this site recommend them so i'll try anything once. I started out looking for a 1970-73 camaro and I could not find one to my liking and happened to be driving through an old neighborhood and this one was sitting in a back yard with a for sale sign and $200 and a new battery and drove it home 2 days later. Its rough but looks are not what Im after I just want a strong running beater- believe me its a beater!

chevella
03-14-2007, 07:58 AM
Sounds like a cool ride. I have always been a fan of the 70 to 73 camaro's as well. I was actually looking for one when I bought my Chevelle. The only reason I went with the Chevelle was like you I got a really good deal on it and the wife liked it better, which made things a lot easier. It is also somewhat of a beater with a cheap paint job that was on it when I got it. You may have seen it around, it is a malibu, white with black stripes. I just put the new wheels on it, before it had ralleys. How do you like the Richmond? I eventually want to go with a 5 or 6 speed.

molyorange 77
03-14-2007, 08:32 AM
U think your car is WHITE mine is triple white( paint, vinyl top and interior) man this thing is straight from the DISCO era. What kind of wheels did you put on it, Im a big fan of the rallys. So far I love the richmond its my first stick with some H/P to play with and a little tight but they told me it will take some running to break it in. With the 3.73 I will have a cruise RPM of 2500 @ 70 MPH its got a 2.73 in it until this weekend. Im ready to lay 2 black strips down Hwy 27.:6gears:

chevella
03-14-2007, 09:44 AM
I put a set of polished ZR1 corvette wheels on it. 9.5 in the front and 11 in the back with 275 17's and 315 17's. Going from 15's to 17's made a huge difference in handling, a totally rebuilt suspension helped a lot too. Nothing like trying to keep a car in road with 37 yr old rubber bushings! If just had a drive train like yours I would be set!!

molyorange 77
03-14-2007, 11:55 AM
Man your right wheels and new bushings make a Big difference. Did you install tubular control arms or use stock ones with the poly bushings. I used the stock control arms, I Just dont have enough feedback on if they really work and which arms to buy. I blasted the frame and sprayed POR on it piece by piece, I just dont like the high gloss, and used the HOTCHKIS TVS kit I still have not had it aligned yet but I can tell it handles very crisp and responsive. Im ready to bolt my wheels on it and drive it hard or like Steve Mcqueen as they say.! Lets try to meet sometime soon.

chevella
03-14-2007, 01:50 PM
I used the stock front control arms with poly bushings on the front and custom made adjustable upper and lower control arms with Currie Johnny Joints on the rear. I have been thinking about going with adjustable uppers on the front with the tall ball joints, but haven't decided if I want to finish the interior first, I'm on a budget of course. If we had a road course or autocross near, I know what my decision would be. So many things to upgrade, but so little buget. :hand: We'll definately have to meet up some time. I'll PM you my contact info.

molyorange 77
04-16-2007, 01:20 PM
Whats-up Charlie, The auto-X @ the fairgrounds is on hold for now the fair commission said they would not let us hold an event there at the present time. And wouldn't say anything else, pretty much left us hanging after a schedule had been set. I drove a miata with a stroked 347 ford and t-56 and it was WAY too much!! The course was really meant for V-6s and 4 bangin ricers and thats what most of the guys in the clubs run, really not built for THE DOMESTIC IRON. But the other places like Grenada, Meridian,Columbus are built for the BIG BOYS where talkin vettes, vipers, camaros, stangs, and thangs like that. When I get a schedule i'll let you know, It might be something you want check out!

All of the casinos are just about back. Hard Rock should be opening on the Katrina anniversary this year. I live four blocks from the beach in Long Beach, if you have a travel trailer and can get it down you are welcome to the backyard. Just bring an extension chord.
I know most of the fun is at the Motels but if there is anyone that wants to camp here, it's alright. I just hope te 'cuda is streetable by then.
They have all the crap cleaned up off 90. No more rubble.

04-24-2007, 06:48 PM
Thanks, after missing so so much like ALL the firsts for my daughter I have just been chilling out at the house and catching up on the yard. I bought a new self propeled push mower, told the wife I got it so she could use it but that won't ever happen. I sold my Dodge Stealth before I deployed so I had to get a new vehicle. I found a one owner 73 Dodge pickup with air conditioning and disc brakes, well equiped for a 70's Dodge p/u. I've been tinkering with that.
As for the 'cuda, I need to get it out of the barn and pull that tranny, send it off and get the block machined, do the short block. In the mean time I need to get it on a frame machine. I noticed it rocked while it was on the jackstands last time. It may be the slab but I want to make sure it is true'ed up before I weld in the sub frame connectors. There are some really cool connectors out that are laser ut to perfectly match the contour of the ridges of the stock floor pans. From a bottom view it looks as though it is a full frame car, they tie into the front and rear subs beutifully. The chassis will be complete after that.
The turn around with the tranny will get it back before the engine is done. I need to bend some brake lines and order the top end for the engine and go driving.
I think I am going to go primer black while I am saving the money for the repop OEM style rear quarters from Goodmark, they're close to going into production. I hate to do anything with the bodywork before I am ready to do it all but if it is close to Cruisin' the Coast I aint taking it out in it's multi colors. The black 17's I have on it should make it look pretty mean in black primer, even if it does have some waves in the metal.
I was looking at buying a Mopar race block but the 360 I have should take the upgrade to 408" with the main girdle I have for it. The R3 block would allow me to reach alot of ponies but I won't need any more power than my original plans called for.
I should be Cruisin' this October. That's my time table to get it road worthy. Cruisin' 08 should see the car totally done if all goes well, that's if I stay away from buying anymore lawn mowers with my 'cuda money! :)

Wow, I totally forgot about this thread. I had to find a shop with a Mopar smallblock cam tunnel fixture for the lifter bore bushing. I was fortunate to find Southland Performance, a Mopar shop, in Gray, LA (near Houma on Hwy. 90).
I only recently took the block over there. We had to take in the mother in law and we are paying for her medicine and it's driving me nuts. She has taken so much away from my car budget and she is so ungrateful. Enough of that though.
I am going to have them do the whole thing, all the way to dyno. We should be lookin at middle to end of November.

I was planning on getting the engine/trans in the car and get it going down the road a couple times before deployment.
We had some problems with the enginr that required tear down so we are going to dyno again at the end of the week.
I'll probably get it home by the weekend or the first weekend in Jan.
I would like to take a week of leave and thrash on it.
I have to set up the fuel system, run the battery from the trunk, plumb the rack and pinion and the Hydro-boost to the PS pump, find a drivers seat, run the plumbing for the water injection and some other minor things like safety wire on the rotor hats.
I would like to show the fellas at work that I actually do have a cuda and it is bad as$ as I have been saying it is, LOL.
If I get it running before I leave I would love to do a shake down run up to Monticello.
If I had the engine back when I was spposed to it would have been close but now it's close to impossible.

I am in Bahrain and it is quite a different experience than my other deployments, that's about all I'm going to say about that.
I have enrolled in a distance learning program to get my Bachelor of Science in business/Management.
I got orders to a Team at Stennis over north of Bay St. Louis on the Pearl River.
When I get back I am planning on doing the body on the 'cuda and eventually paint but I would also like to do the interior. Either way I would really like to get it at least looking decent and get it road legal by Cruisin. That was last years goal too but it never happened.

Yeah, I got'er done about three or so weeks before I had to leave for this desert. She made a best of 650 hp but there were signs of knock so we backed the timing off a couple degrees. I PM'ed my number to you and a timeframe I will be back in the States.

The guy I deal with is Terry Snow. He sold the business to a lady friend of his but he still runs everything. I never got into why he sold. I think the lady is just more savvy financially. He is the type to give hook-ups and breaks for buddies. You can't be like that and make big profits.
The do the prep work there. They use acid, sadblast, etc. They also use that special green powdercoat tape and plugs for thread holes. It is staight up professional stuff. He does alot of work for Trinity yachts. One of the big NASCAR owners had his CAT engine in his yacht done by him and gave him kudo's. The Coast Guard and some people out at Stennis Space Center (NASA) has used him. Richard Stephens sends his dragster bodies to him. Alot of chopper frames in there alot.
The name of the place is or was Gulf Coast Powdercoating. I don't know if the lady has changed the name. It is at Hewes Avenue and Glover Street in Gulport. Try (228) 868-1788 . Tell Terry that John from the Seabees sent you.

I am so ready to come home. I am leaving where I am at right now and will be going to the last place I will be at while over here. Doing the transition thing. When I leave where I am going next I will be on a bird back to Mississippi!

I'm back ya'll!
After 20+ hours on the plane I finally landed in Gulfport, MS. I must have caught something on the plane breathing all the re-circulated air for all that time. I have felt like crap ever since I walked through the door.
I have been passing the time by watching Nemo and Little Mermaid. I played shark and horse. It is a little bit of a change from last year. Then it was Lady and the Tramp. Now it seems like I will be watching alot of ocean related and Princess movies. I have yet to watch Shark Tales but I am sure it is coming today.
Oh BTW, if you haven't figured out I have a daughter by now re-read the last paragraph, LOL.

I will definately be there but it loks like I might need a miracle to get the 'cuda on the road by then.
I am living in Bay St. Louis now, a little closer to my next duty station over at NASA, and will be mostly at the Long Beach and Bay St.Louis events. As always though, the Edgewater Mall is a good nightspot for burnouts and things.
