I hope these pictures come through. I am having problems with the brakes on my 66 chevelle. The front brakes have been changed to nonpower disc(supposedly ECI). The problem I'm having is little or no brakes. If someone would please identify the valve in these pictures and tell me if it looks like what I should be using, also if this is a porportioning valve shouldn't both front lines attach to the front holes. Currently the drivers side line goes to the back of the valve.
Thanks
David

Looks like a proportioning valve alright. All of the valves I've seen have the rear line come out of the back. The 5 port vavles have to holes in the front, one to each front wheel.

There is one line on the back that goes to the rear brakes but there is one line from the left front that goes to the bottom on the back of the valve. I'm not sure the guys that did the brakes knew what they were doing. The car is going back to them today to find out what is wrong.

Looks like a distribution block to me. Old Disc/Drum dist blocks do have a proportioner in the rear line area of the block. There is also a hold off valve seperate (usally upstream from the dist block) in drum apps as well. Was it Drum/Drum or Disc/Drum originally? What is it now? Was the master changed? If not, and you had drum on front before, you are moving a lot of volume and not pressure.

Also, if you say the dr side front brake line feeds from the back then there may be an issue unless it is backwards. The fron usaully has the inlet on the side and the outlets are directly across from the inlet and on the nose inbetween the aforementioned inlet/outlets. The rears have an inlet on the same side as the front inlet and the outlet is on the tail.

Give us more detail and we can help solve this better.

The car was a drum/drum converted to disc/drum. the m/c is dual chamber and is supposed to be new as is the proportioning valve or distribution block or whatever it is. The shop that did the work claims the m/c and valve came with prebent lines that were color coded but the front line from the m/c is smaller than the rear line and reducers were used to match with the m/c and valve. Is it possible that the valve was installed backwards?

thanks
David

If you look at the last picture of the valve check out the way the brake lines are hooked up. I talked to the folks at ECI and they said it sounds like it is backwards. They said to turn it around and block off one outlet and run a line to a tee from the other outlet and run the front brakes from the tee.

Thanks for your help. I now have brakes. The shop that restored the car finally listened to me and the diagram I sent. They had the porportioning valve mounted backward and had the left front brake and the rear brakes plumbed together and the right front by its self. It feels good to have brkaes now I feel safe driving.
