I have a small block chevy with 10:1 compression. The cylinder heads are iron chevy's with 76cc chambers and 2.02/ 1.60 valves. I am considering a supercharger or a turbocharger for my car. How can I lower my compression to a blower friendly 9:1 compression? Will thicker heads gaskets be enough to lower compression to 9:1. Could I add a charger with 10:1 compression? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

You could add a charger with that C/R but you'd be very limited on the amount of boost you'll be able to run with pump gas. If its intercooled you'll be able to get away with a little more.
Thicker gaskets: In an N/A application they could hurt you by promoting detonation when you start to get over 0.050" of quench area....i think thats mostly due to the V/E of the motor being N/A......with a forced induction style motor people are getting away with it.
Now you wont be able to lower it THAT much with a thicker gasket, MAYBE .5 but i'd say thats stretching it....and it really depends on the thickness of the gasket.
The correct way would be to change the pistons for some other ones with a little more dish.

Thanks for the information. How much boost could I run with a 10:1 C/R?

With a nice intercooler, a Pro Charger and some alcohol injection, 12 to 16LBS! Whenever your ready, just call us.

Do you know for a fact that you have 10:1 compression? 76cc is actually a large chamber for a small block head. You might be lower than you think, in which case you'd be good to go for that blower or turbo.

I ordered a long block kit from Performance Automotive Warehouse PAW in California. I remember the tech guy saying 76 cc heads and 10:1 compression. I could be wrong. I am going to get the numbers of the chevy heads and check the size.
