I run a PCS electronic trans controller with a 4L60E. I have fine tuned the map to the point where it shifts when I want and how I want. If I want my 1-2 shift to occur one mph sooner at 13% throttle angle, I just go into the software and tap the arrows on my keyboard--left, right, up, down. Perfection.
As long as I stay in the gas and have traction--my transmission is set up so that the car pulls like crazy at all wheel speeds and throttle angles.

For situations where more control is needed (i.e. wheel hop, lost traction, auto-x, etc, I shift manually via my paddle shifter. :drive2:

$850 for the controller and harness? I would really like a more budget friendly solution. Are there any options that would put me under $500? I have no plans for paddle shifts or anything like that.

Engine type? Gen1?, LT1?, LS1? LS2? If you have some sort of factory ECU, you can accomplish all of the automatic calibration (except manumatic capability) with tuner software such as LS1edit.

It is a carbed 383

Then it's $850. But worth it!

what engine and transmission combo are you using or plan to use...

It's a 383 making between 430 & 450 hp and about 460 to 475 torque in 3000 to 3300lbs chassis with 4.10s. I'm presently looking hard at 2004r with a full manual valvebody. For the control of a manual w/o the clutch (fading L. knee don'tch know). My reason are 3 fold : 1. it's lighter in wieght and has less rotating inertia. 2. it has better gear spacing. 3. fits the transmission tunnel w/o mods.
