You know how all 68 and newer steering columns have a slider inside so it can telescope into itself in a crash? I'm wondering if it is typical for slop to develop where they go into each other? There is slop in my column and it is either coming from that or the tilt telescoping feature.

What sort of "slop?" Do you mean a twisting sort of slop, or does the column itself move somehow?

It is quite common for the bolts that hold the tilt mechanism to work loose, but this will cause the upper part of the column to move about.

Yeah I mean the twisting kind of slop. I know it has this because when I take off the intermediate shaft and twist the steering wheel back and forth from under the hood I can feel some slop. Also I can move the shaft in and out from under the hood too, maybe 1/4" or more.
