Hey Fella's

I thought I would share my temporary project with everyone. I am building a 69 Camaro, but the progress is slow!!! I have a 68 Camaro Bracket car that I decided to put back on the street. I have already installed C5 Brakes front and rear. The car stops really well. I have a powerglide and a 355ci motor with 4:56 gears. I plan on dropping to a 3:73 gear and an overdrive. I can't make up my mind between a straight drive or automatic, so give me suggestions. The motor has a radical cam, so a 5 speed may work better. I thought having a driving project would keep me motivated on the 69. I plan on your basic primer paint job. When the 69 is completed then I will redo the 68.

I would like to have the stick too. But everytime I start pricing the changeover it makes the auto look cheaper. Although my friend say's he knows a guy in SC that has a junkyard with multiple late model f-bodys. I will have to check him out.

We have one here in Hamlet the first fri of the month, but it is not growing much. We might have 30 to 35 cars. I grew up in Oakboro, there cruise in brings alot of nice stuff into town. Albemarle has started a cruise in also.
I would like to see your project some time.
I have 2 first gens, my dad and sister have one a piece, my uncle has 4 i think, and my couisin has 3. Makes for fun family reunions.

It would take about 45 minutes straight down 74HWY exit at 177N exit. Then about 2 miles to town. It is the first Friday of the month. They have a burnout contest sometimes. Let me know if your coming sometime.

The camaro has changed since the first post. I did install a 3.48 gear with a limited slip dif. Changed the powerglide to a 350 turbo. Changed the cam to a one that improved bottom end instead of top end. I tried to get it ready for the RTTH4 but just could not make it. Too many gremlins to work out.

I thought I would update this post, since the 68 Camaro has progressed into a fun A$$ car! This year It has been beaten on severly. We made it to the PSMC in GA this year and the RTTH5 in TN. The 68 has C5 brakes all around, IROC steering, and hothkis springs and swaybar. It needs some rear suspension upgrades, but I am trying to concentrate on my 69 project, so that will have to wait. I installed a 350 turbo, and 3.43 gears, still has high rpm on interstate but it is drivable. The 68 drives great now with the power steering, and the trans and rear gear it runs the autocross in 1st gear. It needs better tires, but it kinda gives you a little autocross with some drifting mixed in!!

You guys are winning me over with all of these flat black paint schemes. Very industrial/nothing but business looking.

Yea, at the RTTH 2009 I knew my car looked to rough to be in the event coverage in Camaro Performers, but Rupp put it there. He said Pro Touring was more about cars being driven, and mine was driven all weekend. I had a great itme participating last year in events. You need to bring yours out this year!

Do you have any tire rub with that wide of a tire in the back?

Tucks69
04-30-2010, 09:42 AM
I do if I have a stout passenger! LOL. It has 17X8, 4 inch backspacing wheel with 275 tire. I am trying to buy 2 17X9.5 from another member here. That should take care of the rub. But during autocrossing it does not rub, just over hard bumps on the highway.
