Hello everyone,
happy holidays. Well, i decided to upgrade my headlights on my 66. I was not happy with my stock headlights at all. So what i did is buy a set of BMW headlights and install them. It took a long time to do it because I had to make a lot of custom fabrication in order to make them work. I also installed HID lights to help with the visibility. The end result is CRAZY!!! I can see A LOT, but the cool thing is that I'm not blinding anyone do to the fact that projectors have a "cut off line" that eliminates glare to other drivers. I am very happy with this conversion. Let me know what you guys think.

Awesome retro fit!!! What year bimmer are those lights from. Way to small for my car but just curious. Some of the 94-96 Impala guys have experimented with 5 and 3 series headlights on theyre Impalas.

Thanks for the compliments. I like them a lot and its awesome to see peoples reaction when Im pulling up and they're expecting a new car and they see my classic with a modern upgrade. Ive been getting a lot of compliments from a lot of people.
so this is what i did. Sorry, I didnt take any pictures o the actual process of how i did the retro fit because it was an experiment. I didnt think it was going to work.
Anyways, first i bought a set of 5 3/4 headlights from ebay. I also bought a set of E30 BMW headlights from ebay, they come with angel eyes but i did not install them.
Second, i dissembled the bmw headlight so i could work on the individual projector headlights. i then cut the back plastic piece and and also the back part of the projector because the H1 bulb is different from my H4 bulb and it wont fit.
Then i got the 5 3/4 headlights and i cut the back headlights so i could use the light bulb housing on the projector. i then used plastic glue and hot glue to mount the cut housing from the 5 3/4 headlights to the projector headlights.
I removed the entire headlight assembly from the car ( its 4 bolts i think to remove). I then used a plasma cutter to cut the diameter needed to install the projector headlight .
to mount it i used the screws and adjusters that came with the bmw headlight and tapped in holes according to the pattern of the projector headlight.
That was the install; it took me all day because i had prior experience working on something like this. This install requires a lot of patience.
Any more questions just ask.

So, when the headlights aren't on, do the outer rings light up?
impalatpi66
12-14-2008, 11:06 AM
yelcamino: no, i made so they dont light up. They are not real "angel eyes". These headlights use halogen wedge 194 bulbs that make the rings light up.

How much more work would be involved to make the rings work?
That would look pretty cool to see an old car roll up with the outer rings lit.

The rings light up by plugging them into the back of the headlight.

Simply badass...
Of all the cars I have seen done thus far... this, just works ! I mean, it fits and really just blends into the grill.
I just hope Steve-o finishes up on his set-up for the F-Body...

I put HID's on my car. And had to make sheilds to keep down on the road and not blind traffic. Once you drive with HID's you can never go back.

so what HID bulb kit did you get and from where and how much did those end up running you? also what temperature HID's did you get? i assume the headlights came with ballast's did the wiring go pretty easy?
how hard was the wiring to do to make all of that stuff work with the old technology and the new?
what is the difference between the angel eyes you have and the "real" angel eyes??

There are many people interested in this.. If it's not too much trouble will you post up your question and the answer?
Randomly stumbled onto this thread and thought i'd pitch in since i've done this mod as well, albeit using junkyard BMW OEM lamps.
Those of you looking to do this mod check out the brief discussion here.
