Engine mount question, Lt1 Engine in a 1969 camaro.

Ok, so I went to install a 1995 caprice Lt1 in my 1969 camaro.. I thought that both Gen I blocks and LT1 blocks were the same? When I went to install the engine using the engine mounts from the Gen I, the engine was to far forward. Does anyone know which engine mounts I need to use so the engine fits correctly.

they do bolt up the same. Sounds like your frame pads are the problems, not the mounts. I believe the 307/327 frame pads move the engine further forward than the 302/350 ones. You'll also need different motor mounts as the widths of the pads are different.

I am installing a '96 Camaro LT1/4L60E into my '67 Camaro. Using original 327 frame towers and original style mounts, it sits the same as the old engine. If it were much further back, there would be clearance issues between the crank pulley/swaybar and the left side header/steering gear. I am using a crossmember from Bowtie Overdrives and the trans mount fits toward the rear of the bolt slots in the crossmember.

No problem installing in my camaro. Be careful if you order mounts and pads. Like Jody says they need to match, but don't always believe the manufacturers (NPD's didn't match a couple of years ago).

Also, make sure you put the frame mounts on the correct sides. I put the mounts on the wrong sides :hammer: and it put the engine too far forward. The rear part of the frame mounts should hang over the aft edge of the subframe crossmember.
