View Full Version : An odd question, anyone pro-tour a Park Avenue?

I have a 98 TA that I set up to handle and am working on a 79 SE TA as well. Next project is a pro-touring 86 S-10 Blazer that I've had since I was 15.
But my daily driver is a 1995 Buick Park Avenue Ultra that is super comfy and a great daily driver. But, of course, it is boring. It is almost paid off, and I thought it would be find to play around with a little. I'm only 27, so my friends and family pick on me for driving a grandpa car, so I'm thinking at some point I'm going to build it up.
I can't leave any of my cars alone and always want to have a tastefully done modified car.
Yeah, this one is FWD, which sucks, but I think it would look awesome with tinted windows, some 18" or 20" Torque Thrust Ds, and a 2" drop on it.
It is a tough car to mess with because I don't want to look like a baller or anything, I just want a car with some old-school muscle look to it.
What do you guys think? Anyone ever take something like this and make it handle?

I would purposely go for the baller look if for no other reason it'd be a great joke. fyi a few years back Dave Emanuel from random tech wrote a series of articles on the olds auora for gm high tech. I believe he ended up spraying it into the 13's

I would if I didn't have a kid on the way. I don't want him to be embarassed to be seen in his dad's car. Well, he might anyway, but I digress......
I can easily see this car getting into the 13s with the right setup. It moves surprisingly well in stock form.

I thought about selling my Cherokee and doing something similar, like an Olds '88 LSS or Pontiac Bonneville. You could really wake that motor up with a cat-back exhaust (probably custom, since I don't think anyone makes a catback for the big cars), cold-air intake, and a pulley swap for more boost. If that car has the self-leveling air suspension, it might be tough to find a way to lower it, unless you take the auto air leveling stuff out and do a custom air suspension. Bolt on some 17's or 18's and tint the windows and it'll look sufficiently evil.

You should drop a 3.8 litre SeriesII in there and turbo it. Lower it 2 inches and put some 18's on it with a nice lip. They already make bolt on turbo kits for that motor.

check your or someone elses PHR library, a few years ago some company did just that with a big buick and a regal both 4 drs and frt drivers. they actually looked really cool, no bling just modern supercar, kinda bmw-ish. they were lowered, subtle buick appropriate graphics, somepower mods, suspension, and wheels. i'll do some digging if you can not find it.

Personally if you want to set it up to handle I would get a different car. Pretty much no after market and fwd. You would be better off with a 95 roadmaster. Then all the impala ss tricks work.

I'd definitely be interested in seeing that PHR with the big Buick! I don't have any old issues around here.
And only reason I'd do it is because it is my daily car and is reliable and well maintained. I have three other cars that I am building up right, this would just be to make it less grandpa.

I found it in my stash of old magazines. the article was called "Can You Believe These are Buicks?" on page 42 in the April 2000 issue of Popular Hot Rodding. If you can't find a copy in the library, I'll try to scan mine for you at work.
