I think it's cool, but my wife is kinda on the fence about it.

That's an aproximation of Mazda blue and flat black.

I like the color combo, just not the design. What would it look like to do a bumblebee stripe across the nose (like a Camaro) or across the rear (Like a Dodge)?

Gordz32
01-31-2007, 10:34 PM
I like the colors but how about some kind of hockey strip from the nose back

TonyL
01-31-2007, 11:01 PM
the dodge stripe was my first idea.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

But I dont know. I felt it was wrong in some way. Could be my skills just suck.

Gordz32
01-31-2007, 11:08 PM
Your skill don't suck, I can't even figure out how to do that stuff on my photoshop, I Suck at it. Try one with the hockey stripe and keep it just below the top ridge of the fender door and quarter, so u can still see some blue above it but make it flow so its not just a straight line. I dunno?:pat:

TonyL

I'd also done the hocky stripe one, and felt it lacked the "hard core" look i'm going for. It's not bad though.

But I think it makes the front end look "smushed" and the back of the car longer. Which is everything I'm trying to avoid. The corvair has a huge ass, and a relatively small front area. I need to either bring focus to the front of the car, or take away the focus off the huge quarter panels.

Out of all of them, I like the first one the most, but I'm not a fan of two tones. Even though, technically, I'll have one on my car..... Anyway, I say stick with the solid blue.

I like the original design & the hockey stripe. I don't care for the band around the rear portion, makes the rear look fat. To me the blue is too bright, I would do something toned down a little, more gray in it.

Just my $.02

How about more of a classic stripe down the middle of the car or perhaps offset?

I think the first one needs tweaking. Maybe stripes that get progressively thinner. I really like the offset stripe idea. That bumblebee would be a good choice too. Yet another idea would be the Grand Sport stripe down the left fender.

I like the first one because it is different, although the others are timeless, they are used to often on all types of vehicles. Go different or should I say, "Dare to be Different"!

What is that?!? I've stared at it for a min or two and can't figure it out.

It's a 1966 corvair. (I've dared to be different)

Im still leaning toward the first one. Something about it looks "right" to me. A racing stripe may happen as may conventional "SS" stripes. Im still kicking around lots of ideas.

Sorry Tony, I had to.

I love the two colors but maybe you should look at regular black against that blue rather than the satin black. A thick black stripe going down the hood, roof, and decklid would look killer.

I just wanted to chime in that I kinda dig the first, original design. (and most of the others too, but not so much the hockey stripe. Funny how none of us can really agree. hahaha)

Anyway, I agree with the use of a black other than flat black. It's too much contrast against such a vibrant and deep blue.

also, the bumblebee stripe and the orginal design would be enhanced with the thin 1/8" or 1/4" stripe on both sides of the main stripe. (wow, that's hard to say well)

DJ Mabe, I'm working on two cars. Mine is the blue one, my brother's is already yellow. His has grey tweed interior and is mostly done, except for the exotic stuff. (WRX fuel injection and turbo) But we'll probably get it running first without all the extras.

If you are working with photoshop, I'll give you a tip that'll make all the difference if what you are doing comes out "flat"

Stay away from the "paint" tools. All of the color work is done with hue and saturation and bright and contrast. Never use paint to paint a car in photoshop. It never looks right.

I'm strongly leaning toward either the first thing or the hockey stripe that goes almost all the way down the car. So far, those are my faves.

Not settled on a blue either. May go dark Toyota blue. I guess I'll decide at the last minute.

It's in yuba city. It's called Yuba Sutter Body Shop. It is owned by Magnuesson auto group, and is a pretty huge shop in its own right. I guess they do about 300 to 400 thousand a month over there. (I think? I know they do dozens of cars a week.) It's a direct repair shop, completely collision repair. They do good work, and they will fit me in for a refinish. All I have to do is buy paint, and buy the painter a 12 pack. ;)

I have to do all the prep work. But that shouldn't be much of a problem.

I can hardly wait to get it to that stage. I've still got some mechanicals to finish. Im swapping the powerglide out for a stick, and I need to have one of my heads resurfaced. I've got a blown head gasket already. (dammit) But on a corvair that's not a catastrophic failure.
