I need a new posi unit, I am in the market because the old carrier is cracked and the clutches are worn out. Im thinking about an Eaton clutch type or Detroit Locker or the Detroit Truetrac. Which one is mostly used out there?

Eaton clutch type is like a factory unit......so they would be the most common type. Great posi for a frequently drive car.

Depends on what you want to do with the car. If it will be a street/strip car then the Eaton is probably the best. If it will be drag raced a lot then the Detroit Locker would be better. If it will be taking curves fast then the Truetrac is better. What do you want it to do?

No drag strip use, Mostly street and a few SCCA events

if you get an eaton, the carriers are fine but the clutches and spiders are junk, better get some steel clutches (not the fan type) and the forged 17-10 gears the powder machined ones aren't too great either.

who carries the clutches and spider gears, what about the steels in the clutch pack are they any good or do they need to be replaced along with the friction disc.(Explain fan type clutch disc)

We sell a lot of Moser stuff, and Tru Tracks are all the rage. And I never hear any complaints.

If you want to do the SCCA stuff then the Truetrac would be best.

Truetracs are pretty awesome, got my ring and pinion set up friday and have to say I have always used clutch type diffs and thought they could not better the design but the truetrac is great. Now for the ring and pinion break in and I'll be ready to bruise the streets. I highly recommend this differential unit if street driven!

Molyorange,
So you got it back together, great! What gear ratio did you go with? How about the 2 black lines, do i need to check out Hwy 27?

Whats up chevella, I have not layed any black patches down yet but it wont be long. I went with the 3.73 its perfect with the .75 od and 26" tires. 2500@70 mph.

Molyorange, how does the true track behave? Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't it and the Thorsen somewhat the same type of design. The reason why I am asking is I put a Thorsen in my daily driver a year or so ago and it worked great at first, but recently it has become unpredictable. Like if you gas it hard in a corner, sometimes only the inside wheel will pull. There may be a problem with mine, as it has got a bunch of miles on it. Any case I will be in the market for a posi unit in the near future for the Chevelle and I was also considering the true track. Keep me posted once you put some miles on it.
