The bodyshop is now seam sealing my shell and I have a few questions. I have done a search and it seems like a lot of people are using the 3M stuff that is tan and comes in tubes (we are also using this). My question is...does it need to go on ALL internal and external bottom seams? The reason I ask is, my shell is basically brand new and it looked so nice before the seam sealer. :crying:

The plan is to go with the rubberized undercoat in the wheel wells, along the underside of the rockers, and over to the frame rails. The entire underside will be painted in body color (including the rubberized coating). I am just trying to get some input on the application of the seam sealer, here are a few pics I took this morning...

...they still aren't done applying it in these pics, but does this look about right? They did mention it will "lay down" a bit better as it dries (it is still very wet in the pics).

I hope he's kind enough to give you a reach around. There is absolutely no reason he should be putting seam sealer on three quarters of the joints that he is.

I asume that they are using 3M 08300 seam sealer?? I wouldn't use that stuff any more it dose shrink ALOT and usually cracks. They should be using 08308 Heavy Body seam sealer it is a 2 part sealer and dosen not shrink or crack and dry real fast paintable in 30 min. Also they should only have to seam seal the joints that may let water and other stuff get to the inside of the car. Just my .02

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like there is an agreement that more sealer was used then needed, as I suspected. Oh well, better safe than sorry I guess. It is about 2 pieces (roof support and cowl) short of being a new shell, so all of the seams are "fresh" and have just been welded, so I guess they felt that the extra protection on them was worth it.

The will be spraying the interior with Body Shultz and the rockers over to the frame rails with Rocker Shultz today.
