Hi guys- new here.

Have an 84 elCamino, putting a 383, T56, ATS spindles, 9" rear, yada yada yada.

Why I'm here- and I did a search, is I despise the dash on the car, particularly the radio HVAC control wart in center front. Anyone have any suggestions about something that would work? Seen the 4th gen Camaro that some are putting in 1st gen, just wondering what people have tried for G's

Sounds like a great project you're putting together. One option would be to update the trim around the gauge cluster, radio, and above the glovebox to '86-'88 Monte/Elky parts. They're black, with a smooth rounded finish. Looks much better than the woodgrain you have now. Another (more expensive) option would be a completely new dash, as you suggested. Check this thread out - http://www.montecarloss.com/community/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=401674&page=1#Post401674 - there's pics of a dash from a G-body Grand Prix swapped into a Monte, and filled with gauges. You might like that idea.

Steve...you like that dash on that car? The carbon fiber...white gauges....too much for me!!!

It's a bit much on my eyes too, but the original poster did say he was looking for something different. :) I like my factory gauges and dash, though I am going to experiment with the trim.

Grand prix, eh? Like how the Radio HVAC controls appear more integrated, rather than being stranded on an island in the middle of the dash. Execution not my cup of tea, but I think it looks better than the existing dash.

Mention of third gen Camaro dashes in there- Anyone ever seen an installation? Know what's involved?

Couple of 1st gen camaros are putting gen 4 dashes in. Any idea how this happens, what's involved?

Holy gauges, Batman. The GP dash is a good idea but that one looks like a Christmas tree. Take away all the lights, a couple gauges and put the vents back in the middle and I think it would look great. Check out the Cutlass dash too for another option. I think its my favorite.

I've always preferred the Cutlass dash also, though I may be a bit biased. ;) Aesthically it seems to blend the best with the HVAC and radio controls but is probably the most limited on size and number of gauges that can be installed.
Looking for a way around that on mine.

Any way to post a pic of the Cutlass dash?

I'll take a picture of my '88 dash tonight and post it if no one beats me to it.

I have always thought the Grand Prix dash and console looked the coolest, but do away with the fake woodgrain on the GP dash. The Olds dash is cool too, but the gauges end up being too small I think.

Then again, that's why ice cream comes in different flavors!

Shiny Side Up!

Thanks BBO. thinking the GP dash looks better. Still not liking the radio HVAC wart.Alternat plan may be to cut the foam wart out and smooth it to match the rest of the IP. Have someone like Just Dashes recover or?

Heard some talk around hat 3rd gen F bodies could be made to fit also.

Just dunno why I don't like them so much but I don't
