My subframe (2nd gen Camaro) is separated from the body, engine is out and I need to remove the spindles. I have a hard time getting this job done.

I tried with a ball joint fork but it still won't come loose after several blows with a big hammer on the fork.

(castle nuts are a few turns loose)

Tips/advise anyone??????

Thanks,
Martin

1) Confirm that the fork is the correct width.

2) Hit it harder.

Get a larger fork or a larger splitter.

How do I know what the correct width for the fork is?

The splitter I bought is too small, the fork I have is pretty large...I can measure it (maybe tomorrow night)

If your not going to use the spindal again Or dont care if you mark it a bit then .

Hit the spindle with a hammer on the side to distort where the ball joint comes through it. it will come loose in a few whacks..

been doin it for years never seen any bad results other than a few hammer marks

...i agree, wack it off....damn Durango and liberty's. But good practice. 3-4 wacks on average. Leave your shock and sway bar hooked up so the spring doesn't go north.

The inside of the fork should be just large enough to allow the balljoint shaft to fit into. The majority of both forks must also be in contact with the spindle.

Well....I managed to get it all loose! I think the fork I have is just a bit too wide.
I also found that the fork was more effective from the rearside. Last week I tried it from the front........
Alltogether this job was a major PITA.....but that's done now :bananna2:

on to the next job now.

Thanks everybody for your advise!
