If not for the seatbelt, I would've had glass for breakfast this past Friday morning...
A cab driver was trying to make a left through the intersection as i was traveling through it. The light was green and I was traveling at about 45 mph. He was found to have contributed to the accident and was given a ticket for "failure to yield the right of way".
What sucks is that this was a good truck. It was paid off and had 135,000 miles on it. I was hoping to get to 200K before I would start looking for a new one. And we just paid my wife's car off early too. I was going to use the extra money to help finish the car this year. :banghead:

Glad you are OK and yes, seatbelts do save lives. Hopefully you can use the insurance money to buy another similar one in full and not hamper your plans too much.

I'm with Nick! Use the insurance $$ to find a similar truck, instead of using it as a down-payment on a new one. You'll be much better off without another long-term car payment. Glad to see you walked away from that one, looks like a nasty hit!

Thanks guys. The airbag didn't even touch my face; just my hands but it did burn.
My wife doesn't want me to go out and get another truck with 135K miles on it because you won't really know what you're getting. Plus she works for the Hendrick Automotive Group so she was shoving auction inventory lists in my face as soon as I got home. It is really hard to shop for a vehicle when all you can see are VIN #'s. So now I've got my eye on a 2005 Chevy 2500 HD Crew Cab. It's a 6.0L, not a diesel. I might've preferred the diesel had I really been in the market for a new truck, but this one will tow 9500 lbs. and has a 4:10 rear end and the trailering equipment option, so it will handle the limited towing back and forth to the shop that I have to do. After all, I plan on driving the car, not towing it.

I just sold one of those trucks and bought me a powerstroke. The 2500 HD has one of the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in, but the gas mileage sucks. I got 11.5 around town, and 8 towing a 24ft enclosed. I installed a cold-air intake and cat-back exhaust, and it didn't help a bit. I loved the creature comforts, but just wasn't great for towing.

Glad ur okay, sorry about the chev. Just a note: My buddy has a 2004 GMC 3500hd with the 6.0 great and as always with chevy's awsome comfy seats But, He also get 10mpg around town and he never hammers on it. Not to mention: the thing is a dog and he's had some problems with it. My next trruck is gonna be a diesel, just don't know which brand? GoodLuck!
Another note: I don't wanna pay for a new $40k truck, So I'm looking for older 12valve cummins dodge 2500( Rebuild recommended at 375k miles), theses motors run forever, tons of torque/great aftermarket, mechanical injection( No computers) and you can find them for under 10k. Just have the tranny builtup cuz they suck stock!

I have not seen a 6.0 yet that was a dog. I have driven or ridden in ~20. Around town mileage is not great but talk to a hemi owner and it will make you feel better. Most of them don't get much over 10 on the highway. As for the diesels I would stay away from the powerstroke. Good power but lots of problems.

Srry to hear bout your dellima and Im glad you are ok.
On another note I own a 05 1500 4 door 5.3 Chev
I get 16.8 MPG all around I get 20.Mpg on level fwys or 19 here in cali most long dist trips I take
as for towing Sucking? Hmm I have pulled a 34' 3 axle trailer from cali to oregon and back, from Cali to colorado and back. from Cali to texas and back.
the truck stops like a ferrari w that trailer and no trailer brakes
I know you will never believe me but its true.
It pulls like a Fng train I have passed many deisels up hills with this trailer behind me. Yes 65 at 5500 rpm in second But Im passin um and not slowly either.
I get 14 MPG Drafting a Big rig as well if i dont draft i get about 10MPG
I am truley AMZED with my lil Chev that shouldnt but DOES
First trip I smoked the rear end fluids, Replaced w Royal Purpal and its all good.
I dont advise you to torture your lil 1/2 ton as i do But My buddy who needs me to tow for him cant because his 96 3500 454 Chev is a POS that allways takes its lunch break when he needs it most, Thats his fault for buying a Used up beat down truck in the first place
but as for mine shes still going strong

Haven't you guys heard about the Tornado? Geesh! Just Kidding.
I drive about 7 miles to work, so mileage isn't that big a deal but it is good info; just don't tell the wife. Something tells me she already knows. We've got people around here that sell the biodiesel, but my wife wasn't convinced so we got the gas. Well my wife has the gas, I have the gas truck. Dope.:hand:

Don't know you didn't pass me going up hill. :lmao: Just kidding. I have been happy with my powerstroke. 50K and no problems. I drive it pretty hard at times, even with a trailer behind me. If I can't run 80 with a trailer, then I will not own it.

Hey, make sure your kids always wear their seatbelts too! My wife is a peds doc at a major hospital and the vast majority of tramas and pedi surgerys are from MVA's with no seatbelts (this is shockly high for teenagers). Trust me, you really don't want your kid to be brain dead.

Good Point! I had a car seat base in the middle of the back seat and as I was cleaning out the truck two things occured to me. One was all of the junk I had in the truck was everywhere and two, what if my little one was in there and was struck by some of it. The lesson here is just like your race cars; get rid of the loose junk.
cant go wrong with a cummins thats all i have to say.
nice thing about a diesel is you can boost them untill you blow the head off the engine.
I know of a few trucks pushing 80 psi +
