I've got my '67 race car stripped down bare and the primer is going on Wednesday and I have no color picked out

I'm leaning towards a blue or dark red (not maroon though). I really like Kandy Apple Red but I want to avoid the trouble with Kandy's.

I've considered a teal color but I'm not sure.

Anyone have any cool colors (stock or HOK or dupont... Whatever) that you could recommend/like yourself? If I had to right now it'd be viper blue but I can't sell myself on that.

The only colors I've ruled out is Silver (a guy that runs my track has a silver first gen), Black (don't want to do that kind of body work) and SOM/Burnt Orange (Not a fan).

EDIT: Here's a pic for inspiration I hope...

How about Bahama Blue - a 60s GM color available from PPG. The attached Nova is that color. I am considering it for my project, as well as LeMans blue - see the Camaro attached.

Like you mentioned it is more body work but...that car is screaming to be black!

The Lemans Blue as seen in the Camaro pic above, and on mid-60's Vettes and the big-body Chevelles is one of my favorites when I'm at a car show. Great factory color.

Not sure if you want it to stand out, but, I've seen some dark yellows that I really like on the Camaro,.....and my Bro' has that 69 color that is like a Butternut color. It's really light, but, looks good on the 'Maro.

I'm wanting to stand out but via the pearl/metallic aspect of the paint. I'm not a big fan of the not as widely used colors (although I think it would be cool rally green, I just don't have it in me).

That LeMans blue sure is tempting, at this point it's my darkhorse and I like where you were going with the bahama blue. The past few days I've found some more colors I like...

Vivid Blue Pearl on '06 Acura RSX's:

Impulse Blue on GTO's (I think it's too dark):

This red off of 2003 Cobras:

... Or LeMans blue.

Anyone think either really sticks out? I've got problems with both red and blue haha, it was a maroon type color so I would like to change it up but my '69 is blue and I'd like to change that up too.

Ok, I thought I was done, but since you put up more pictures..... :)

I'm not a fan of the Bahama Blue. Hard to explain, but I find the hue annoying. :) lol.

Now, the Mustang red as you pictured is very nice. I've seen it in person and I do like it. It gets your attention in a more subtle way, a cool way, unlike the screaming child blue. :) lmao. (No offense Flash!)

I got it ! code 379e red on GM cadillac . This color is originaly a tricoat ( base color with what is todays candy a mid coat) Dupont has a formula that converts this to a base clear . This color also covers well and looks awsome!!! easy to spray and looks like a candy. TODD

I was on the same page. I have a 2005 Mazda 3. It's a tricoat as well.

Its a couple shades darker then a bright red. Has metallic in it, however you don't notice it until you are right up against the car. You have to check it out, you won't be sorry.

Wow, man. You may have just solved it all. Today I had convinced myself out of red riding to/from school but that color might have me sold. Cadillac has some sweet colors. My '69 is a Cadillac blue, my Z stripes that are going on my '67 are snow diamond off of Escalades and then I'm really diggin' this color. That's exactly what I wanted in a red, not cherry red but not maroon either. A mix kind of like a candy only less the troubles a candy can bring, do you think the body lines of my '67 won't keep it too dark? I know the blue on my '69 is darker than what it looks like on the Escalades and I wonder if it's because of the straight body panels.

How does this tricoat work and do you have to do to convert it? I'm not familiar with this, sure does look like a candy though.

WOW, even if I don't use it thanks a lot...

Sorry I took so long, ive been on my car alot! Any dupont supplier should be able to mix this formula it is in the computer as an alternate! With this formula it is just like spraying any base color. You should be able to cover with this color in three coats. As far as the look of the color my suggestion is to go by your local Caddilac dealer and look at this color on Devilles at different times of the day and cloudy and sunny conditions!! How bout a life size spray out!! Any more ??? Painter at a cad dealer TODD

If you are still considering blue, you can't beat Viper Blue. This is '97 Viper Blue with pure white stripes that I had on my Cobra. It looked awesome in person...

I dont have pic yet but I used a Ford color (sorry but it looked so good as soon as I dig out my helmet Ill slide in a pic of the Ultraviolet.
I saw this on a Lincoln MarkVIII and it looks so awesome it flips and flops in the light, looks blue, black ,purple and so many other colors and its simply a base clear i got it from NAPA so its a current color.

Thanks a lot 67velle.

My problem with the blues is that I think they can get too dark sometimes. Granted my car will be seen outside and either in the sun or under lights but I don't like blues that are too dark. Is the Viper Blue really dark with an overcast sky?

This is my '69... I think the blue on it is too dark, sometimes I love it when the sun is directly on it, it's really blue and you see the metallic but most the time it's this shade:

Hrod382 -
I was looking for exactly what you were looking for in a dark red but not a candy or maroon. For my 1970 project, went with an early 2005 Corvette C6 red called "precision red" (not on the Cobalt). The WA code is 946L and the PPG code is 906269. It is a non-metallic red.

See the attached pictures

If that isn't right and you like the Caddy red better, there are two versions of the tri-coat red. Magnetic Red I was on the 1995 - 1999 Caddys and on the 1999 Corvette C5. Sometime in early 2000 GM switch to Magnetic Red II, which was a little bluer. See the attached link for info on the Corvette Carmine red (1998), Mag Red I (1999 - E2000) and Mag Red II (L2000 - 2005).

http://corvetteforum.net/c5/magredclub/magredpaint.html

It took me 9 months to decide on the right red. Good Luck!!! I hope this helps.

Kevin

Subaru WRX Blue a nice true-blue color. It's a pearl and really comes to life in the sun...

not far from me.. down near San Diego. The new owner just spent $10,000 on putting a new leather interior in it.

I wish I had known. I would have got the old interior and given him stock stuff. That Recaro material was PRICY! His name is Rick and the car is in good hands. With any luck it will be parked by Penny at some events this summer
