Hey guys, I know its not a pt car but do you think it can be done space wise. Anyone familiar with these cars. It would make for a really fun car with lots of handling/suspension aftermarket. LS1/t56/in a really really small car. TEll me what you think:drive1:

I think the Solstice swap would accomplish the same thing, and probably be a cheaper and easier swap. Not to mention as stated by dropit69, if you have $40k plus to spend there is a company that already builds these. Have you seen Hot Rod Mag's Solstace? They got together with GM engineers and built a Solstace from the ground up with an LS7, it is one bad mofo. It bests all the Z06's performance numbers and still runs 10's in the quarter even set up for road racing, when they can get traction that is...:6gears:

It would make for a fun ride, provided it wasn't a Miata. Miata's are for women. Gimmie an LSX Solstice or Sky any day.

You can buy an early 90 for $2-3K. I saw a Monster Miata and it was fast!

HAHA, thats the problem, if I would do it I'd def have a hard top and really dark tint so nobody could see me!

I would never, ever ever, never drive a Miata.

Then again, I would never, ever ever, never fit in a Miata.

That blue one posted earlier has been changed to an LS2 swap. 400hp, t56, and sub 2500lbs :6gears:. Gained about 150lbs on the swap, but maintains almost perfect 50/50 balance.

Another company providing LSx swap goodies for Miatae:

I love people who dismiss my Monster Miata as a girlie car. Makes it ALL the more fun to blow their doors off... :spank2:

Why not a fiero!

I've owned both. Very similar idea, but the Fiero obviously wasn't a convertible. The Miata is much lighter, making it a little easier to make it handle, but yeah, V8 Fieros are fun, too.

I would disagree. I would think you could build a V8 Miata for half (or less) of a Solstice conversion. Your used Miata market is far cheaper than a Solstice/Sky would be. Plus there are far more V8 Miatas in the world than V8 Solstices - so the amount of fabrication and head scratching is going to likely be less with a Miata. So far the primarly V8 Solstice conversions have been through Mallet (big money for a turn key conversion) or Hot Rod magazine (who had the backing of some serious engineering resources at GM!)

Why do some of you hate Miatas so much? I think they are very cool cars, anything that will pull to the fuel cut in 5th and comes with 4.11 gear is cool.

I don't think anybody hates miata's, I just have always thought of them has sort of a girlie car or Corky ramano's orange one in that movie " You Guys want some cookies" haha. I still think it would make a great Low Buck DD with plenty of pep and pretty good gas mileage. But a V8 Miata would def get away from that girlie car mentality! I'm gonna look into some more and if I come across a cheap one in my area I might just bite the bullet. My yukon isn't gas friendly nor is it fun to drive. I need a toy put can't afford a drivable 69 camaro

I never really understood this either... The miata is the Japanese interpretation of the original British roadster (Austin-Healey, MG, Triumph, etc.). As far as I know, those were never seen as girlie cars. On top of that, they are lightweight, RWD, nimble, and tossable... Pretty much everything an enthusiast craves. Add the power of an LSx and you have the formula for some serious fun.

Miata's have a lot of potential for reasons that have nothing to do with how funky or weak they look. The only car I see as goofier is the WRX. I do not care how badass they are, I am not a racer so would never own one for street use. I would rather work a lot harder on a beautiful looking body style to make it handle and drive its best.

That being said, I do believe that some body mods can improve the curb appeal of the Miata, or at least I would hope somebody makes something for that car. The English style cars that I think look tough are the Sunbeam Tiger's and Shelby's Cobra's.

Give me anything domestic from the 50's to 70's and I will do what I can with it. Otherwise I will stick with my Toyota and Honda 'A to B' vehicles.

I don't hate Miata's, I just think the Sky and Solstice are tougher looking roadsters. Miata's look chintzy to me. But you have to understand, you're talking to one of those annoying blue-blooded Americans here. I support American products and companies because it helps our economy by keeping jobs here. My cars are GM and the gas that goes in them is Marathon. I'm just a silly patriot.:usa:

I had one for two years.. The only car I ever made money on.. I bought it really right, a five year old car, clean ******, a 9 out of 10,with 46000 miles... 2000 dollars. added a battery, a set of Momo 16 wheels with tires,, another deal,300 dollars, used the car trouble free. sold for 6000. OH yea,, 302s mustangs been going in them since they came out.. Look up...Monster Miatas.. car is rear wheel and cheap... downside for me was no room for kids.... phil

go watch some spec miata racing and tell me miatas are girly!
The miata is a great driving little car. But id much rather stick to the brit cars.
I'm helping my brother with a MGB right now that will have about 105 hp that weighs about 1800 lbs including driver. wont be scary fast but it will be a nice track day car

I to think the Sky would make a killer car but with the cost of them right now a Miata is a way better car to work with. The Solstice is not a pretty car to me.......

My brother has a TR6 which I love. He had a few Miatas, too, that I did all the usual suspension upgrades to. A real slot car.

I'm really surprised by the close mindedness of the majority of the responses here. Given that Pro Touring is supposed to be about total performance and maybe even some of the "dare to be different" attitude - I sure haven't seen it in this thread.

I like the profile of the brand new Miatas. I think the interior is pretty nice also. I wish I had the money to toss at a Full Package Mallet Solstice though. Can you imagine how much fun that car would be on a warm spring day in the twisties? And how fun it would be to blow past most big headed street car owners? Lowered, lightweight wheels, big brake kit, a few custom touches to the interior. Fun. I'd be like Leno, but ALL my cars would be customs.

I swore I was going to back away slowly from this thread, but I can't help myself. Sorry.

So the March issue of Hot Rod had a Dare to be Different section in it. The Volvo P1800, the Austin Healy 3000, the LS1 powered Citroen - those were all sissy cars or just crappy foriegn cars? Has Pro Touring evolved to the point where dare to be different is just buying a second gen Camaro instead of a first gen? If so - count me out.

Who cares what EVERYbody else is doing or doesn't like? That's about as plain as I can put it. Some like 'em, some don't. A few will do this, while most will do that.

It IS cool that the LS1 is being stuffed into everything now.

Like I said to Hartz, it was a joke! Get it? The fact I have an '82 Mini and "joked" about a Miata would be called irony. The "not that there's anything wrong with that" comment would be a Seinfeld reference. Seinfeld was a comedy. get it?
Ya'll need to lighten up a bit.
BTW, it wouldn't piss me off if you said Mini drivers were gay. I've got that "secure in my masculinity" thing workin'.
