i have a 396 BB in my 68 camaro and would love to twin turbo it. Ive never seen a turbo charged big block in a first gen camaro so i dont know if there would be enough room for the headers. if anyone kows anyitng about doing this id appreciate some info.
thanks

Sounds cool to me. It won't be easy, that's for sure. Not much room to play with w/a big block in the way.
Is there any way to use a set of manifolds (turned backwards?) instead of building a set of custom headers?
I can see that the fan/radiator will be in the way. Is there any way to mount the radiator in front of the core support and install pusher fans to make some extra room?
Is there room to mount the turbos behind the grille?
The best advice I can give is to find a spacious (if there is such a thing) place for the turbos and fab the piping.
You will need a (4") cowl hood to clear carb and hat. Unless you plan on a DFI system.

Yeah, i see only turbo small blocks in the camaros so i dont know how i would do this or if its worth it or not. i think it would be cool to twin turbo it because you never see a turbo big block. as far as the turned around manifold thing, that may work. i kow on ls1's they take the truck manifolds and turn them around and it works great. id kind of like to do a blow thru set up too becasue theres no way i could afford to turbo my car AND fuel inject it. is blow thru a pai to tune and keep tuned? if anyone has any input on this it would be greatly appreciated.

get on the web and find some pics of exh.manifolds from a C-60 truck. I recall them using a complete different style from passanger manifolds. It seems like the runners and collectors were bigger too, making for better flow. You might get lucky and find something where the turbos can be bolted directly to the manifolds. I know of a place in Houston that has new castings for less than $100 each. I replaced a set on a Chevy Top-Kick and they were good quality pieces.
Blow through seems to be the new hot setup. The twin turbo Camaro (3rd gen) that I am presently working on has a Holley 750 HP series that was built by CSU. They guarantee it to be close to spot on. They take all the engine specs and #s and come up w/a ready-to-run carb.
I like the fact that they install air bleeds so a precise tune is obtainable. Once it's tuned it should stay tuned. The only problem I see is if it's tuned for warm weather, cold weather performance might be on the lean side. That's where air bleeds really help. Instead of pulling bowls and changing jets, you could remove the hat and swap in a different set of air bleeds in just a few minutes.
Turbo Hen's car has the same carb, so you might see what he thinks as well.
What heads/cam/intake, etc... do you have in mind?
Go for it man. That baby would be a monster.

well since im doing the rest of the car right now, suspension, paint, interior, wheels etc., i cant afford everything at one time. im gonna have to put low compression pistons in and probably some open chamber heads, mine are closed chamber. unless i hold out and get some nice aluminum ones. and im debating if i should go single T76 or just go with twin 60's or twin 67's. i want the car to be streetable as ill be driving it ALOT. if this type of set up wont be very street friendly, ill just put an LS1 in it. i want decent gas milage.

I posted a link to Alex's turbo car when we first cranked it up. It's here in the power adders section under "twin camaro run-in".
It is really mild mannered. It'll idle at 500rpm w/no probs.
Being streetable has to do with how radical the cam is. Since turbo motors run best little/no valve overlap, it makes them really tame and great drivers. For having open down tubes at the moment, it's amazingly quiet.
Looks like you have a good combo. W/the 6-speed, you'll have nice highway rpm. Running slightly bigger low-speed air bleeds will lean out the cruising rpm and make for better mileage. Swapping out smaller mid-speed bleeds will make it richer from that point upwards, making up for the leaner low end.
Stay w/a mild cam and you will have a perfect driver.
It'll have a Jeckel and Hyde personality.
