Any members in the colorado springs area?

It looks like my co. will be finalizing the order in which available employees will be relocated to the springs. i initially took this job knowing there would be a chance to relocate. so as this ball finally starts rolling i will be looking for fellow P.T. members in the area to possibly guide me to the reputable people in the area for parts,svcs etc. maybe some one willing to drop by and pitch some expertise my way.:)

Dam! I just left the springs area, for lame ass StLouis area. If you want to make some freinds, once it gets warm the Grocery Warehouse on Powers is the place to be. Saturdays, around 4;40 5pm It starts to get packed, And Ive seen as much a 200 cars or more. Its just a cruise in, and theres all types there. I used to roll in with my 64 Galaxie, pro-tour project. Not sure anymore about some of the shops,as its been a year for me know. One place I do know for your polishing is JM polishing. Jim Hull is one of the best. He did all the brite work for my small block, and the rims for my Lightning.
I ve seen other members on here from the springs so Im sure they will chime in. Good luck, I miss the hell out of the springs. Maybe ill meet you out there once I get the hell out of IL

Engines/trans/suspension or whatever.

And ditto to what Animosity said, Jim is a good friend and one hell of a polisher.

He has a very nasty Vega wagon....blown alky BBC. That thing runs low 8s at an altitude of 5800 ft in the mountains. Plus it's car show worthy.

There are a lot of events during the spring, summer, and fall.

Well i guess i'll fit in with my first gen. right now its gutted( long story but it has to do with paint shops) and i'm trying to figure out how i'll get it there. and the wife knows once were settled she can find me in the garage when i'm not at work.thanks for the reply i'm at work right now but definatley pm you here in the next 'coupla days.:smoke:

I think Id seen you 70 around before. Did you use to hagaround at the show when it was at Kmart... years back? If so that was a sweet car. The biggest thing I remember about it was it was the first car I seen running monoleaf spings. I think they were fiberglass,but its been about 10 years since then.

Also heres pics of my car I used to take down there. Long now sold, I hate myself!

Also maybe you have room for a fab guy at your shop! I used to work at a shop, Gateway Rod and Custom(now Gateway Motorsports) We buils a $125000 candy orange 67 camaro, for a customer, then he sold this nice car to NELLY, who pulled the dam Torque Thrust's off and through on some dubs and a lift kit... makes me sick. It was in a music video of his from the movie longest yard. Will post pics once I find them.

Animosity, yep, that was me. K-Mart was the Saturday cruise spot before the Grocery Warehouse.

The 70 is the same it was back then except now I'm running 17s.

The suspension and composite springs are from VBP.

Right now at the shop we have all the help we need, we're pretty small, but keep in touch. I've always liked the 64 Galaxy.

I dont know If you would remember the Galaxie, But I always brought it down without the hood and everything in the bay was polished or chromed, and it was a sbf with geardrive, and the x-haust was all done at John from Muffler masters on Filmore before he opened his own shop down town. He is still doing all my freinds cars.


Also If you talk to JIM tell him I said hey! just tell him Chris with the Lightning wheels did did back in the day, when he was still working out of his house.

I saw the Vega, when It was in his garage. I think it was under some stuff then. I used to spend alot of my time down at PMI. Me and some freinds used to run a blue 73 firebird down there on saturdays.

I've only run the 70 at PMI a couple of times, it was all I could do to break into the high 13s there...lol....I've never run the 67 on the strip yet.

I'm in the Springs as well. While I'm not real active with car stuff lately, I can say there is a very large, albeit somewhat underground, car culture here. I say underground because there has not been a track in Colorado Springs since the late 80s and most the big organized shows in the area have disappeared. All of this despite the fact that the Pikes Peak Hillclimb is the second oldest automotive race in the country and is well known internationally.

Most cars around here tend to be drag racers or show queens, but there are a few Pro Touring varieties. There are events for drag racing in Denver and Pueblo. There are also oval tracks and road course in, you guessed it, Denver and Pueblo. There are some groups who occasionally have open track days for all makes. The Colorado Exotic Car Assoc is one. There also is a vintage racing groups that runs some stuff along the lines of old Trans Am style racing. There are rumors of tracks opening in Ellicot (30 minutes away) and Genoa (1 hr away).

The Grocery Warehouse cruise is probably the best place to meet other car guys every Saturday. The only decent remaining car show is the Good Times in Old Colo City at the end of summer. Sorry, I can't make any recommendations on shops as I build all my own cars. There are a number of shops out here though, so I'm sure there are some good ones. Machines shops are all over, some good, some not so good. Heck, the world headquarters for Superflow is right up the street from me, so we have a regular, but stealth, stream of big name high performance players coming through here all the time.

In any case, welcome to the mountains. Don't be suprised if you car won't run for beans until you get the air/fuel mixture and timing sorted out.

Superflow! didnt they used to be Magnaflow(fuel pumps) they had that badass Nova down at PMI. I used to work down the road from them on Filmore, at Precision Motors, before I became a contrator down on Carson.

Alright yeah! Magnaflow was right by the dog tack, on one of the side streets. I got my start as a mech. after the army, right up there, when It used to be Western auto.

Do you know if anybody is still racing down off of wooten(by UPS, just north of Platte, toward Powers. I used to make alittle cash over there with my Lightning.

If you're willing to drive to Denver, Kaiser machine and The Block Shop are two really good engine machine shops.
Troy Kaiser's dad JR used to run one of the last independent top fuel dragsters back in the 70s and early 80s, its a cool place to check out.
Burt Chevrolet in Englewood is one of the biggest GMPP dealers in the country.
