anybody miss good old customer service, noticed it is rapidly disappearing? i have, i just took it up the nether region today. Those fab shops that are members here and advertise with us, support them. I bought a rollcage "kit" from a company that is a customer of the steel company i work for. those rollcage guys i have seen at pt.com check them out, they sure seem worth it to me know! i bought this "pile" from a big drag race shop formerly of a national franchise in northwestern chicagoland, like right on the wi border. anybody following me? We discussed it over the phone, repeated it back to each other a couple of times and were truly clear on what i wanted and they were going to provide. then comes the sidetrack. it was to be their 10 pt cage, which has engine compartment bars, mine was also to come with bars to save the rearseat. ( i know we have discussed the back seat here and i know what you want to say, indulge me please.) it was also to come with 6x6" 1/8 thick plates for mounting purposes. I assumed(ASSuMEd) that it would have also come with an inventory and maybe some kind of reference paperwork, part numbers, description something. This was all agreed upon and gonna rock and roll, right? Not only NO , but H,E,DOUBLE TOOTHPICK No! the front bars do not look right, cant verify until saturday, the rear seat saving bars,NOPE, got the straight thru the seat bars, mounting plates, What, where, never heard of them!!!!! In all fairness i have not got to call them yet, try tommorrow, but i am so mad i thinking about skipping it. How about some kind of paperwork, yes a single sheet handwritten pt.#101913(plymouth duster, if any of you are still trying to figure out who this big name is.), pd cash 10 pt $289 plus tax=$307. that is it i'll just have to guess at the rest. what happened with coming thru with a quality product and taking care of the customer. A buddy bought ladder bar rear suspension kit from them. supposed to have the bars, the brackets, the hardware everything but the coilovers and the rearend housing, powdercoated black. guess what he did not get? okay it is easier to tell you what he got, 2 ladder bars minus powdercoat. NICE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!

How did they handle their mistake with your buddy's order?

Since we live in such a unpersonal world there is no thing as "Customer Service" anymore, it works like this:

"if were wrong, you need to prove it with documentation, oh, and if we didn't provide you with documentation you need to go find it on your own, sorry about your luck, have a nice day"

I realize it all the time when I call people. I try to be personable and it catches them off guard. People don't understand CS anymore.

Have you called said company yet? You are blasting them for poor customer service, and they probably don't even know a mistake has been made yet. I would allow them to rectify the situation before I let loose on them.

i have called the company back, the mounting plates are sitting in a box on a cart, close to wear the tubes were. Evidently when my coworker came to pick it up, they took my money and left him to himself to figure out what was what. They went off to whatever was important like making there next sale or something. They will ship them out to me, as for paperwork what i got is it, a receipt. They will also trade me the rear struts but it is up to me too figure out which tubes are the rear struts. They certainly were not going to go look at there schematics to give the length or something helpful like that. I figure out which ones to send back and then they will trade. So what do you think? i still say the customer service should have made it self known after the money traded hands and before the driver left. Taking the money and running, is not very good service, hence you get this type of problem like we had here. As i have mentioned it was in line with the treatment and service i recieved when delivering there. I paid full retail i feel i deserved the luxury of paperwork and some kind of manifest detailing what was there, as well as make sure the non car guy picking the stuff up ,left with the right stuff. After looking at bobbaganoosh's cage picture, and getting a perspective and rereading some other roll cage posts, i have decided to use the struts they sent me afterall. In all fairness i planned on modifiying this cage anyways, to actually be closer to my needs.

DD... when you're tired of the fit that the pre bent kits give you, bring the car on down.

$295???? Is that the DOM kit or the ERW kit?

allright everyone some of you may have caught my tirade regarding a cage kit i bought. Well no allow me to stand here and tell you that was a huge mistake. What did i expect, it is a kit!! Please look and think real hard, there is a reason guys are out there who build professional cages for our style car. I have to find out tommorow for certain if i have erw tube or dom. As i remember the differences it makes me think it was dom, not able to feel a seam inside the tube? We will have to really modify alot and add alot to this kit, not to mention bend ath forward struts more, they are way off.
*now for the most important part of my post, before i run off to ford-truck.com to repeat this.*

SCOTT, FROM IZZY'S CUSTOM CAGES, EMAILED ME , HE WANTED TO GET MORE INFO. SCOTT DID NOT GLOAT , DID NOT SAY I TOLD YOU SO, NOTHING. HE WAS THE UTMOST PROFFESIONAL, HE GAVE ME A FEW POINTERS, AND FACTS REGARDING BAR PLACEMENT. THEN FOR THE REALLY HUGE PART..... SCOTT OFFERED HIS KNOWLEDGE, IF I HAD A PROBLEM, HE SAID GO AHEAD AND CALL HIM. THAT MY FRIENDS IS CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!! YOU THINK I WILL HESITATE TO TELL PEOPLE ABOUT HIM IF SOMEBODY ASKS ME ABOUT CAGES,,ABSOLUTELY NOT. It will be the first thing out of my mouth. I cant not emphasize how big i thought that treatment was i got from Scott. He is truly first class, and if this goes to hell i will not hesitate to start over the right way, drag the duster down to him. Let me also tell you, if i have to swallow my embarrassment and take him up on his offer to share his knowledge, giving him a call. i will be sending a really nice gift or a chunk of cash for his knowledge, no fail!!!!! Thanks fellas, Scott for president!!!! scott08!

well the front struts are no where close, the headache bar is quite aways off. The main hoop is nice though we will use it. i think we are just going to bend new front struts. live and learn. I am discovering this company has a horrible reputation, shoulda looked a little harder.

Allow me to play devil's advocate for a moment.

You were requesting specialized set ups that were out of the norm and accepted them without any documentation to prove it was specialized, that is a goof on your part.

You sent a helper out there to pick up customized stuff that you specified, so they probably thought that the person picking up the material knew as much or more about what it should or should not have been than they would. Another mistake on your part.

You bought a tube kit and then expect it to arrive with everything notched and labeled and pointing out where it all goes. Can't say I've ever heard of any cage kits coming from any manufacturer anywhere that are that explicite. There are too many variations in cars for everything to fit pefectly for every car, so that is why you get a kit with different lengths. I see this as another mistake, but perhaps that is just differing expectations.

Dare I say you also used your supplier relationship to work out a deal with them. Again, isn't it fair to say in light of this relationship, they probably presumed you knew what you were getting into.

Rather than contact them and work out a resolution to the problem, you log on here and start ranting and raving. Hmmm.

Except for model cars, I have never seen a very detailed set of instructions for anything that gets installed, used, or is related to hot rodding.

high plains you bring up solid points. i did send someone who knows nothing of cars, they pointed to a pile and bailed on him. went on to something more important than taking care of my cage. Yes you also mentioned it was a kit and i have chastised myself for thinking i would get better, my fault, i should have just bought the hoop and done my own, would have been money ahead. as for the supplier relationship not a chance, i did not ask for favors or specials nor recieve them , i was just another jag off buying a kit, and that was the way i was treated. kinda the same way when i used to deliver to them. as for contacting them and working out a resolution they told my buddy to pound sand when he called asking about the missing powdercoat on his ladder bars and basically told him to prove he did not recieve the rest of the stuff. so yes i was not overly excited about contacting them. in there defense they did offer to ship the mounting plates and bend the rear struts with the return of the straight ones. i decided to call it a learning experience and move forward we have debated the safety and sanity of a rear seat here and decided it made sence to scratch that idea. I do appreciate the devils advocate work though, i was pretty hot, but cooled off and rethought parts of my position. I would still not recommend buying from them unless you were physically going to do it at there counter. there is a reason they are no longer a part of the big franchise. Thanks for your time and thoughts, Dan

I tried selling a few kits. My problem was that it was more work than installing a custom cage. I even went so far as to obtain a test mule chassis so that everything fit well, was cut to length and notched. Had detailed instructions down to the last weld.... it was just too much work which is why 1)kits are generic with unnotched tubes that are too long, 2) I no longer do kits :D Prebent hoops and lateral bars... yes... full kits ... no way!
