Son had an asthma attack yesterday. Spent the day in the hospital. This was the 2nd time this happen. 1st time he was 3 and we ended up at Johns Hopkins in Balitmore, Md. for about a week. Almost lost him that time. He is 8 now and has not had any attacks until yesterday. Ex-wife calls me at 9am to tell me she is taking him to the emergency room. I get there around 10am. He was not saying much or doung much. You could tell he was having a really hard time breathing. To make a long scary day short. he is home now and taking breathing treatments every 4 hours. He is a tough little man. :twothumbs

I hope everything stays stable for your son. Glad that it has been 5 years between episodes, but that doesn't make it any better. I almost lost my son when he was 2. Very scary stuff. I pray that your son comes through all of this with flying colors. Sounds like a tough little guy.

UPDATE! Pharmicists filled the prescription wrong. My son was suppose to take (1) 20mg pill for the next 4 days. Instead my ex read the dosage on the bottle as "as per 1 dose". Meaning to take all 4 pills as 1 dose. My ex by the way is a nurse. She was thinking the Dr. wanted my son to have a dose like he had yesterday. Come to find out the pharmicists was confused and told my ex that he questioned me about the dose.(WRONG ANSWER). He didnt ask me nothing. He just assumed. By protocol he was suppose to call the hospital.
My son ended up taking 40mg. Double to what he was suppose to. End result will be, he will be irritable and hiper. But what would have happened if he had taken 80mg? It's a good thing I called to check up on him this morning.
The pharmicists got a royal butt chewing from ex-wife and she is going to talk to his boss tomorrow. He will receive a letter of reprimand and I do not know what else will happen to him.

Wow, tough story. Sounds like it will end well. That has to be the worst things ever, scares with the kids. I had something like that once (but not as bad) - we thought my then 3 year old swallowed one of grandma's (unlocked) pills. We had to go the ER and give him charcoal or something to block the body from absorbing the medicine.

I had asthma when I was a kid. I don't think I ever went to the hospital when I had an attack though. I had a couple that were pretty bad though. I spent all night in the bathroom with the shower running once after my humidifier took a dump. A couple times I couldn't breathe pretty much at all and I wound up running outside. Once it was sleep walking. I woke up with my parent's walking me back inside. I was having a dream that everyone was leaving the house and just leaving me there. Turns out I was really running outside, and when I woke up, I couldn't breathe. Scared the mess out of me. I have been fortunate to not have had an attack since around the age of 14. Asthma sucks.

Does the weather effect his type of allergies? I heard where people will move to certain states so it has less of an effect on their illness.
Glad to hear he is doing better. It is times like this that put life in perspective....

Good to hear he's doing better. I'd punch that pharmacist in his esophagus and knock the wind out of him.

posts like this scare the hell out of me. I'm happy to hear your son is ok. I still have nightmares about something bad happeneing to my son. he's 13 months and I don't know what I would do if anything bad happened to him. every parent's fear I suppose.

UPDATE on Pharmicist, Being my ex-wife is a nurse, she knows how the protocol works. The pharmicist was very apologetic and said he should not have assumed on how to dispense the predisone. The pharmicist's manager was not there yesterday. He is getting a call today from ex-wife for his butt chewing. I sort of pity this guy because I know personally what a butt chewing from ex-wife is like. Henceforth EX-wife, but a good nurse
Getting back to my son. He felt REALLY good from the big dose of medicine. He was super hiper. But after it wore off he felt really sick to his stomach. I will let you know how he is when I talk to him around 9am.

UPDATE!!
Ex-wife spoke to pharmicist's supervisor about the incident and his comment was that he did not have the power to write him up or anything. However, his supervisor did. Ex-wife spoke to her on Wed. afternoon. The woman told my ex that there was no incident report filed by the pharmicist nor his supervisor. She then explained that she would be going to see the pharmicist and his manager the next day to file an incident report and possible time off for both. I do not want to see either one fired but they need some sort of reprimand so this sort of thing does not happen again.
My son is back at school on Wed. and he is about 90-95% good.
Thank you for all the prayers, concerns and comments. The Man upstairs can do wonderful things, all you have to do is believe in Him!!!
