My springs for the door hinges came off without too much trouble.

Little did I know that getting them back ON was the tough part!

The drivers side went on (with a little cussing) in maybe 15-25 minutes.

After futzing around with the passenger side for about the same time I realized that the passenger door spring still retained a BUNCH more spring tension than the drivers side.

I eventually came up with this plan seen in the pics. Instead of putting the main pin in place and THEN trying to slip in the spring,...I put the spring in place.....compressed it, and THEN put the main pin in place. Easy as pie!

So, I'm just curious. Is this a moment of brilliance or am I the last one to know about this little trick?? :smoke:

There is a tool to compress that spring and install it after everything is replaced.

Its actually made to remove and replace the spring when your doing hinge bushing replacment

The easiest way is to buy a spring compressor maybe $20. It is v shaped and will securely hold the spring whole you rebuild the hinge. It's small enough that it can be used with the hinge and door still mounted on the car.

I just did my hinges this last weekend, and used a c-clamp just like in your pictures. I did ricochet the spring off the wall once so its definitely not the safest way of doing it.

I used duckbill vice grips on mine, worked perfect!
