I have a th400 in my 72 chevelle behind a bbc. Going through the gears normally it shifts fine but when you pull it down into second from third it spools up to like 3000 or 3500. Under that rpm it almost freewheels like it has a big stall in it. About that rpm it really locks in and goes any help with this would be greatly appreciated thanks.

On some O.E.M. valvebodies, trucks and non-performance cars, if you try to downshift, it won't until you bring the revs way up. Also some rebuilders don't install the bands. This stops engine braking effect and I've been told that it can worsen the symptoms you have. An decent aftermarket shift kit should fix you up, I think. FRANK

so do you think if something is wrong with one of the bands or a selinoid is bad that engages a band that this could be it or maybe I am just fishing????
