Hi. I'm new to the site. I have a 65 mustang that I havn't started to work on yet, but I have been looking towards the engine compartment. I have been debating what engine I should put in. I'm lookin for the highest horsepower to weight ratio I can get (road racer, not a strip car). I hear the new modular engines (dohc 4.6 & 5.4) weight alot more than a typical ford small block, and in one thread from what I understood, actually weighed more than a 460 big block! Can anyone out there tell me about what these engines weigh and roughly what horse power range would be.
Ford 4.6, 5.4, a 460 or a cobra jet big block 427 I think it is?

Brian, I seen your post on another subject, did I read it right?
That modular 4.6 weighs more than a fully dressed FI 460

I have a 2003 S/C Cobra engine in my latest project. I just sold another brand new one for $7200. Honestly they are not worth the trouble. They weigh more than a FORD 460 and are even larger in dimensions. It costs more to build HP, etc.

If you are spending 15k on an engine look at Keith Craft one of the sponsors and see what they can get you for same or less cash. You can even have FI or blower but use a conventional 2v motor. Save 200lbs and make more HP.
