Need some advice from someone that has a Mini Tub Chevy II. What was the biggest tire and wheel combo, back space and axle width. We are not planning on cutting the uni-body frame rail, just inner fenders.
I am doing one for a guy and I would like to get some help with parts before I start the project.
Thanks!

I don't have any of the info that you are looking for, but had to comment that the very first time I had ever heard of or seen a mini tub job was on a Chevy II. That was way back in the mid '70's.
A few of us had made the treck to a drag strip near Hamilton Ont. and came across this little Chevy with huge tires under it's rear. The owner was more than happy to show us how he did it and said " It wasn't such a big deal " :pat: . I can't for the life of me remember the tire size, but they were considerably wider than anything that woud normally fit the car, and this was without cutting into the frame rail.
A trick I seem to remember the Super Stock racers using was taking out the frame rails and welding them back in on opposite sides. This gave them more room for wider tires while still meeting the rule requirement to keep the stock frame rails.

It depends on the car! Each one is a little different so you would need to measure to the rail and that should give you the tire width info you are looking for. Generally, a 265, without cutting the rails is as wide as most people can go.

Iam doing a 1964 chevy II for a customer now, the mini tub is done we just moved the tubs back to the frame rails 1 1/4" we will have a 275, or 295 back there with a 91/2 or 10" wheel. The rearend is ordered an will be 55"s wide
We did Alan66ss chevy II as well an moved the stock frame rails in on each side about 4" that car will get a 315 or 335 on the rear of it.
hope this helps
