Any recommendations? Any to stay away from? This is for a mild 1st gen 350. I have found so many I don't know where to start as far as choosing one. Thanks.

Dave I had a Tilton that would not turn over my 455 fast enough(yes the grounds and wire sizes were all good). But I guess anyone can have a bad day now and again.
I'm sold on Powermaster XStourque series and that is my starter of choice from now on. Replaced the Tilton from above, and it started up in less than one turn (NO OTHER CHANGES).
Just my opinion though.

Go to your local auto parts store and get a starter for a 1999 Chevy 4WD truck with a 454. Locally they cost about $175 with a lifetime warranty.

I bought a PAW unit for $120 in 1999 and it still works. Cranks fast. My 383 has 10.8:1.

I have one PM GM starter left on the shelf I have been selling for 149.99 plus shipping. I would sell it for $149.99 shipped in the US 48.
These are new. As for looking up a 1999 just ask for a starter for a 94 K2500 with a 350 I believe the Autozone number is a DL9990 ,but mine is a 6449.
I was going to keep it for my 283 but thats on back burnner for a while as my mom just had transplant surgery.
I do have paypal also.
Oh yeah these are for 168 tooth flywheel.

I had dbelectrical.com rebuild my alternator. I don't know about their starters but my alternator locked up within 700 miles.
