Hi,

I'm Marck and I live in the Netherlands. I own a customized 1983 c10 stepside and am building a 1982 twin turbo corvette coupe with a 6 speed tranmission, custom suspension w/ full coil overs all round and a tilt front end & home made fender flares for my 11x16 and 13x16 modular wheels. I also have Wilwood Intregra 6 & 4 calipers (& IRGTs) full 5 stage dry sump, a fluidyne monster radiator, C&R oil filter adapters w/ adjsutable bypass and a lot of other trick stuff. Basically it will be an autobahn racer (I live 5 mins from the German border)

I still have a lot to do, like modifying the frame for the coil overs, started on the rear but don't have it finished, also need to install the 12 pnmt rollcage

When done it should look something like this

Hey Martin,

Didn't know someone else was doing a turbo setup, I really like your camaro. I'm now going through your pages and I already found an interesting thing, those H&R adapters. Did you have them specially machined or are they BMW ones (since they are almost dead on 5 on 4.75 pattern) and hubcentric to your wheels & hub??? I am looking for some 1/2" ones, no adapters but spacers but adapters would work, I'd just leave the extra set of wheel studs out.

On A.A.P. it seems that most people are interested in just posting some BS, which is okay, I like that also. I try to answer some tech questions most of the time but usually the answer is already there. I see no need in showing off stuff there, people may consider one a show off if he did that.

BTW, do you have the blow through setup figured out already? Did you modify your carb yet? Here's a nice tidbit of info just in case

Twin_Turbo
03-08-2006, 07:56 AM
that's actually my goal, build it as close to a full fledged GT1 race car (only w/ 2 seats) and run it on the street...don't care for comfort. It's probably not really pro touring since I don't have large rims and low profile tires but I did put a lot of effort into the suspension, brakes, frame stiffness and handling aspect.

Finally it's rolling :)

Still lots of work to do though...in the mean time a lot has changed, I dumped the home made 5 bar rear suspension and built a double a arm IRS instead, figures why not do it right while I'm at it. As nice as the 5 bar with additional upper control rods was the double a arm was really what I wanted all along.

After coming up with a design:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/10/reararm_1-1.jpg

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/10/reararm_2-1.jpg

I started building the components and this is the result

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/10/touchdown14-1.jpg

It was a lot of work but IMO well worth the effort, I now have a funnly adjustable suspension that on top of being fully adjustable is also easy to adjust and opretty lightweight compared to the stock setup, on top of that the toe contol problems are completely eliminated, this should handle infinitely better

I also finished the front steering end take off rack and pinion as you can see in some of the above pics, here's some details:

Very nice work!

Hows the scrub radius with such a deeply offset front wheel?

Twin_Turbo
10-11-2006, 09:29 AM
It's worse than stock by about 1/2"... not much I can do about it, don't want to change the kingpin inclination with expensive custom spindles, I could chop and reweld the spindle upright if it's problematic but it probably won't be. Neg. offset wheels don't look right on a C3 IMO and to look good you sometimes have to make a small sacrifice, so what if the steering takes a little more effort, I can easily change the servo to change the assist and I have several rack shafts so I can change the ratio also, it won't be a big problem.

Hey, My PC crashed not long ago and lost the into on those kirkey seats, can you tell me which ones they are? the 57000 series lightweight layback 20deg ??? I have to oder some before I can finish the subframe under the floor to mount the seat on, I'm cutting out the original floor to lower it a bit for more headroom and I just love those kirkeys you have in yours.

Is the rear half shafts stock? What geometry did you use for the rear shocks. Looks like the rear has been heavily modified... Please tell me more!!!

Twin_Turbo
10-17-2006, 07:03 AM
yeah they are but I removed the c clip in the diff, but I'll swap to splined telescopic shafts so I can reinstall the c clip and minimize stub wear.

What do you mean w/ shock geometry? They are moutned almost directly on the hub to retain a close wheel to shock/spring rate relationship, they are only slightly angled, maybe 10deg. max. Everything is custom there, no stock parts apart from the bearing assemblies. The differential is a C4 corvette Dana 44. The double a arms and the uprights, everything is custom stuff and all of it is fully adjustable. The rear track width is about 2" wider than stock and the wheel base is longer also, I moved the rear wheels backward to get the wheels centered in the flares, with these L88 flares you commonly see that the wheel sits too far forward which IMO is butt ugly...it was simple enough to alter.

sheet metal interior. Here's a start. I lowered the floor significantly because I had a hard time fitting in the car:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2007/06/4viktpc-1.jpg

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2007/06/4ot3afs-1.jpg

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2007/06/6b1i895-1.jpg

I have since finished the cage, I'm not adding any more tubes to it. This rear cross is the last section, had to do it like this because of the dry sump tank. I will change the horiz beam for the seat belts to one the same size as the rest (1&5/8) and add one on the other side. The smaller section really looks out of place. Good thing it's not final welded yet.

Going to pick up the modified trailing arms from the powdercoaters so I can finish the rear suspension. It's not going back together stock :) I figured it needed a little modernizing. Still have the stock front suspension (well, stock type, springs are heavier and cut down) since all the coil over systems for these cars are not all that great in design I figured why mess with it. No sense in chopping up the frame like I did on my 82. The steering system is also stock w/ that crappy control valve setup but I'm working on soemthing, involving a remote servo like used on speedway racks (like on the appleton rack in my 82) and sticking that between the column and the steering box. That way I can do away with the valve on the center link and eliminate the off center sloppyness that it causes, but will drive the car first. I could easily build yet another rack setup for it (I did a rear steer power rack for another 82 and a flaming river manual rack on a 69, although I had to modify that one to install properly) but I don't like the sloppyness of the input shaft with all those joints. Slammed, 18"wheels, flares, autometer ultra lite gauges and rear coil overs...that's all the pro touring it will have for a while. I did fabricate a spreader bar setup, purposely w/ the bolts aiming vertical, all the kits out there place the bolt horizontal making for a PITA install.

I also fabricated some brackets and welded those to the rad to mount the spal fan. I hate those anchor pins you have to stick through the core. This way it's clean looking and rock solid. I put some big holes in the rbackets to allow cooling there. also had to repair the whole underside of the radiator frame, it was rotten all the way through (a common problem w/ these cars)

Finally got my Powermaster alternator to complete the serpentine setup. Had to fix it, the post damaged it but it turned out okay in the end.

Got a whole lot more done on the 77...nothing on the 82 tho.

The 77 is almost finished, waiting for those last bits and pieces to arrive

I changed a whole bunch of stuff and also added a lot. First off I got some decent hooker side pipes

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/01/6oq6at1-1.jpg

I finished the suspension front and rear, rear now uses aldan coil overs

Because I needed a temp port for the mech temp gauges I added a complete thermostat controlled engine oil cooler system (would have been 10 times cheaper to buy a set of full sweep electric gauges...oh well) I used bulkheads to go through the home built radiator frame.

Chenged the valve covers, added a carbon filter and some other doodads. Am going to change that hideous white coolant recovery tank (welding up my own alu one), added a port for a breather/catch can on the fabricated valve covers and will adda billet PCV on the other side.

and a KRC pump mounted reservoir that cost me $300 thanks to UPS and their rediculous charges

I'm a BIG FAN of sidepipes! What brand of valve covers are those and have you had any trouble with them leaking?

the valve covers came off ebay, still have to start the engine to see if they leak, if they do i can always weld in some reinforcements.

The 82 has a custom cast crossram manifold (looks like a moon crossram but it isn't) and dellorto DHLA-45M tri jet pressure carbs off a lotus esprit turbo (US spec)

Sweet rides!!! Couple of people here representing the Dutch very nicely. I would love to bring my Camaro over and tear up the streets with you!

I'll get over to the Nederland's at some point in my life to check out where my history started..Not too many De Raad's here in the states (except in Iowa where they originally settled).

Very cool indeed. You any where near Coevorden, or even the town of Emmen. My folks are from Holland and I've visited more times than I can remember. I bet you stand out at the stop light, and my gosh your cost of gasoline makes me wince in pain.

wow! awesome build!......is there a big vette culture over there??.....5 or so yrs back my buddy puts a small 'for sale' sign in the back window of his 74 which was sitting in the driveway, hadnt even put it in the Trader yet.......next afternoon theres this dutch guy with a heavy accent knocking on his door about it, says he's buying it for a guy in Amsterdam.......they take the car to a high zoot shop for a full mechanical, the car passes, guy pays my bud full asking price no dicker cheque clears and poof, the car 's gone and on its way to Amsterdam just like that, whole thing done in less than 48 hrs!......are they big over there??......btw, my buddies car was a white 74 with a POUNDING' 355 auto......from oshawa ontario canada......anyone you know??......was a little strange the way the whole thing went down.......we often wonder what became of the car.........doug

Jon, I'm not too far from Coevorden, only about 50 miles if that. I'm in the east also, near the German border. Gas is about $8.46 a gallon here now, kinda uncool but they won't get me to drive a prius or something like that. I'm now going for smiles per gallon instead of miles.

There's a big corvette club here with a good amount of members but most here are stockers.

A souped up white 74, don't think I've seen it but if he sticks to the coastal side when it comes to meetings and such. I haven't been a member of any clubs for longer than 5 years either, I usually go to germany to drive the autobahn, the roads here are no fun and there are too many speed bumps.
