I just received my hydraboost pump and PSC remote reservoir. Going to be ordering the rest of the parts I need for the hydraboost setup, but I have a stupid question. I think I know the answer already, but I haven't performed this yet. Looking at the pics below showing a power steering pump with and without a reservoir, it appears as if I can just eliminate the stock reservoir by removing it and installing the proper fittings on the outlet and return lines. Is that a true statement? If so, how is the stock reservoir removed from the pump??

The only problem with removing the stock reservoir, is the return port is a smooth bore, there is a nipple/o-ring on the reservoir that fits into it. So you will have to tap the return port. I have no idea what the size is or who offers the threaded fitting to put in there.

I am getting ready to do the same setup in my car, but I am retaining the integral reservoir. To remove the reservoir you need to pry the lock tabs on the clips (upper & lower) and slide them off. The reservoir will pull outta the port then.

If you decide to continue on this route, can you post a picture of your stock reservoir, I am in the market for a different one as mine has alittle protrusion on the back that is preventing mounting to my bracket. If you arent going to use yours would you part with it???

Thanks,
Shane

Shane,

Thanks for the info. Sounds easy enough. Even tapping the return line port should be a a breeze, just gotta find the right tap.

As soon as I have my reservoir off, I will snap a pic. You could also swing by and take a look at it in person if you want as I see you are in the Burgh as well.

Thanks,
Nick

Check out other GM cars as they have the same pump and the reservoir might be seperate

Very true Paul. The TC pump was used in various things that used a remote reservoir. A friend had a mid 90s Sunfire that used the same pump with remote res.
