Are these worth adapting to a street car?? I've reading more people on other boards useing these. They pop up all the time from NASCAR teams. Just curious about putting one on my 67 Bird. This is just one example. They come in various sizes. And open and closed systems.

That would keep hell cool!!! If you can make it fit I dont see how you can go wrong.

5-1/2" thick? That radiator is made for a 200 mph superspeedway, not street performance IMO.

If you decide to go this route, please be aware that you can by used NASCAR radiators directly from Roush Racing for $125 here:

This is just one example. There are others that are a more "normal" 4 core size. Which are more suited for the street.

Hi All!!! My first post! I have hung out in stock car circles for 20 years now. You have to be careful with used rads from circle track cars as the vibrations after time cause the tubes to colapse in time. Thats why you see alot of used rads for sale. The nascar stuff will most likely be ok as they rotate parts out after one race. I bought a used oil cooler with no problems mind you I plumbed in the oil filter so that any stuff gets into the filter and not the motor. I used a new "howe" rad in my regal a 31" one I had to cut the rad support on the bottom to sink it down so it fit. That thing would cool a dump truck!!

Do you NEED more cooling?

On my 67 Firebird (0.060 over 455, 9.9:1, iron heads, 11.27 @ 119.6 in street trim) I made HUGE improvements by going with an electric fan (Black Magic) and electric water pump (CSI). I had manual steering, so didn't have any problems with belt routing. Water temp would rise to about 190 on the freeway (cruising 3200 or so rpm), but would drop QUICKLY when at idle or lower-rpm cruising. Worked well to cool the motor between rounds at the track, too.

Also, dropped the e.t. nearly a tenth and picked up a full-mph as well.

I plan on doing something similar with my Cutlass, but will probably use a fan/shroud/controller from Brian Baskin (DC Controls)

I have a dual fan set up from a 4th gen T/A and a DC Controls controller. New divider plates, sleeves, and a high flow waterpump. Just need to decide on a radiator. May end up going with a generic two row 1" alum.

Now there's a name I haven't seen in years (long-time Poncho fan here)

Karch,

Dang, I've been outed!

I took a break from the car scene, but I'm kinda getting back into it :-)
