Somebody should make this a sticky here as well. I found this disturbing info about the change at Melling on their SB Chevy oil pumps being manufactured with much weaker tolerances. Here's the thread as I found it. -Jabin.

Ed almost found out the hard way about the thinner pump castings. Luckily he keeps a close eye on the oil pressure and shut things down before any damage was done.
FWIW the last M55 I bought had a disclaimer in the instructions about using the pumps with solid motor mounts due to the cracking issues so its a deffinate problem. Whats sad is that the M55 and M55A are tried and true pieces that have served me well for many years...too bad they had to go and "fix" something that wasnt broke:hammer: .

So in short stick to their "select" line, the 5 digit lineup, i.e. 10555,10552
...and stay away from M55, M55HV, etc.
Yes i stumbled across this just the otherday as well.
Looks like im ordering the 10555!

Great. So the traditional numbered pump is not traditional and is actually less of a product yet they are selling them as original. If you want the quality of the REAL traditional pump you need to order the new part number pump and it will cost you more. It just makes so much sense...if you understand corporate greed. :bsjerk:
