Anyone have any ideas/connections for safe reasonably priced shipping of a pair of front fenders from California to Chicago? I assume truck freight would be the way to go?

You didn't say what kind of fender it is. There are a few fenders out there that can be packaged just right and go UPS oversized, it is much cheaper and just as safe if done right. Check around because prices are not the same everywhere and the limits on size are what will make the big difference. Bubblewrap and cardboard done right can make it survive.

DHL has been VERY reasonable on heavy or large items I have shipped.

"GO GREYHOUND"...... Little known fact that they were shipping stuff for people long before UPS was even thought of.....

Anyway..... they are WAY cheaper on stuff up to 100 pounds with measurements of length, width, and height not exceeding 30" x 47" x 82".

Take a look!
