Hi,

My name is Jan Willem (call me John ;) ) and I'm from Holland.
My car is a '72 Olds Cutlass Supreme, and I have the wierd urge to spend large sums of money on it .
Anyway I'm more of a lurker, I'm mainly here to learn... and sometimes ask questions.
BTW you can view the Cutlass in the garage... I hope you like it.

Welcome John,
The Cuts are a classy car with loads of potential--I say do it!
Got any pics?

As you wish!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

As it is, its got: crappy, cheap tires wrapped around 15' Cragars, 455 BBO held back by a small carb (430 CFM:eek: ) cherrybombs (restrictive flow) 2.93 (or something like that) gearing and a peg leg.
It gets up and goes... but not fast enough:fingersx:

My wish list is pretty long! It's going to take a couple of years... atleast!

Oh btw Bandit... is your TA in Italy too? If so, poor ferrarri's LOL

But lets keep it English here, and yes Martin I'm also from AAP (bowtie-willem over there).

Cool, I'm not the only Dutch guy over here.
And I think I saw some of Roadrage's 'subtle' postings too :lmao:

I wish my grandparents were still around to translate. Their parents came over from the Netherlands back in the early 1900's. Any time they didn't want us to know what they were talking about they used to speak Dutch.

Van B stands for Van Buren.

Welcome.

Welcome to the group Jan. I have lived in Holland a total of three different times for about seven years in total (I loved it, picked up a Dutch wife back in the early 90's, and plan on returning in a few years if the right job oppurtunities come up). I miss going to the American Car Shows there (especially the Cruise Brothers in the Hague and Muiden on Sunday afternoons).

Good luck with spending large sums of money on your car, which is easy to do in Holland. At least the exchange rate is very favorable for you to buy parts from America right now.

Good luck with your Olds and I am sure you will learn a lot from the board. Oh yes, watch out for Martin (hij bent beetje gek) if you run into him at the Cruise Brothers next summer.

Duh... of course it does!

Now come over and help me build a shed to house all my junk so I can get back to work on mine!

Merry Christmas!

Turbo Rob: it's a small, small world. I remember seeing pics of your car taken at the Cruise Brothers meeting on the Dutch American Car forum.
Those Turbo Buick's rule
Where you with the army back then (I think I remember reading something along those lines that came with the pics of your car)?

Oldszzy: same to you! Don't forget to post some pics when that beauty of yours is finished!

Cliff: nice Firebird! (offcourse) Do you go to meetings? I'd like to see in real life (same goes for Rene).

Bill: like I said, it's a small world. I'll be over in a couple of minutes:lmao:

No, I don't, like I said I am separated by a few generations. What does it mean? Should I be afraid?

Merry Christmas Jan.

I was with the Air Force (not Army) when I was in Europe (and still am). When I get out in another 2 years (after 25 years of service), I plan on moving back to Holland.

Which Dutch American Car Forum did you see pictures of my car on? (Ik lezen klein betje Nederlands.)

Haha, no need to worry. It's nothing silly, but nothing profound either. Literally it means: 'from Neighbores'.
My last name is 'van der Helm' which means 'from the Helmet' ...
hence the username ;)

Turbo Rob:
To be honest... I'm surprised you'd want to come to Holland. What do you like about it?

BTW its http://amerikaanseautopagina.com/forum/index.php
But its along time ago that the pics of your car where posted.

Cliff:
Last year I only went to the SNC, but now I have my car I;m planning to visit Muiden too... see you next year.

Oh yeah, kinda late but uh... happy second day of Christmas!
