I would like to cut a coil off my spring from my qa1 coil over setup. Will this change the rate or anything about the spring? I think the shorter spring will fit better in my application.

If ists a dead coil it will just change the height of the spring, if its a live coil it will change the spring rate, which is bad.

Changing the spring rate is not an all-bad thing to do, provided that you have some understanding of spring rate and length formulas and trim both sides equally so that you end up with essentially the same rate on both sides. Plan on cutting conservatively and perhaps shimming or trimming again after a trial period.

Of much more concern in this particular case is whether the now-cut end will properly fit up to its seat.
