If anyone has any info about painting over an entirely powdercoated body(like mentioned in the project "f-bomb" post), and/or applying filler etc.. over powdercoating I would be interested in any tech info/opinions.

I'd be interested in seeing an oven big enough to bake powdercoating.

I thought they used some kind of UV lamps or something for large parts.

the powder coater in my area has an oven thats 25ft long 8ft. high and 8ft. wide. a car body is no problem. i have been considering trying this but have gotten mixed feelings from the body guys about fillers and paint adhearing properly. it would be a great way to seal the body from moisture after stipping it. i was going to coat the the interior , and cage. as well as the underneath. but i'm hesitant about the body. the coater said he would do some sample pieces if i wanted to let the body guys play with it. but i'd like to hear if anyone else has tried it with succes and who's paint products did they use.

your other option would be to electrostatically paint the inside of the car. I will be doing it to my project in the next 6 weeks. Trust me i will be posting tons of pics.
Powder Coat and body filler - never a good thing. I know a shop that powder coats the chassis if it's a little rough and then brings it back and sands it then re-powdercoats the chassis a second time.
On my project i plan to electro static the frame, Inside of cab, underside of bed and cab and then powder coat everything that bolts to the chassis. The benifit of electro static coatings is if you scratch or chip the frame they can touch it up pretty easy.

There are two ways you can do it they will powdercoat the car with a powdercoat primer which is ready for paint or just regular powder coating I Actually use the regular powdercoating and sand it.My body guy Scott Formally Scotts Customs says that it has a good material thickness so he blocks it out before adding primer which makes the car pretty straight before priming.I had no problems with it sticking once it was sanded. It really is a nice way to do things. The f-bomb has a tci powerglide with a strange 9 inch 40 spline axles it's pretty stout.Suspension is a big anti roll bar a set of calverts and some 10.5 w's for the track. Will use some custom 18 inch budniks for Texas.
this is what Tom Nelson replied in the f-bomb thread.

The guy I use has a conveyor fed oven that's 20' x 30' and a batch oven (for parts that can't make the turns on the conveyor) that's 15' x 30'

I have paint over powder coating befor. I just prep it like any other paint I use a 800 grit and wet sand it smooth then paint and clear coat. You dont want to put it on to thick as it will want to run easy. but I have had good luck. treat it like a painted surface.

Just bringing this thread back to the top to see if anyone has anything to add.
My car is all panels and bolts together including custom fender flares, and powder coating all the steel would work awesome for me, and allow me to run the car over the summer before bringing it in for a real paint job.

I got a recent issue of CHP or Hot Rod (cant remember which) and they were doing a green 2nd gen Camaro build. They powdercoated the body before prime/paint. Thought that was really cool.
