hey everyone.... after cruising this forum for info and ideas for a long time, I can finally say I have a car that is officially under construction now. Can't wait for it to be done.....

But my question is for a friend now. He is building a 69 Chevelle and already has a Turbo 400 with 2300 rpm stall convertor. He just bought a 350 crate motor from a small local builder with a hydraulic roller cam - 220/230 @0.050 .502/.510 lift with a 114LS. He has a 10 bolt with 3.08's and he will use it for cruising and short weekend trips.

Is the 2300 stall rating a good match for this cam? I am thinking that is the minimum and maybe a 2500+ rpm would be better? Hopefully you feel the 2300 is adequate and will provide easy, smooth low rpm driving.

thanks

A loose convertor and low numerical gears like 3.08s can be problem when cruising at rpm if the convertor is not coupled it wil build heat. Too tight and a lumpy idle gets worse as the tranny is loaded in gear at idle. 2500 should be OK. Some convertors couple good but flash good also. Continental convertor has one for Pontiac motor that is great,I'm sure they could do a Chevy if he needs more.

2300 is fine. The 114 LS gives a lot of power down under and keeps the need for a big converter down. I would not stress the converter. Look at better gears though.
