Hey,

what's going on guys. I just got a 70 el camino that I've started to work on. I read on another thread about putting disc breaks on these old cars. Can i just pull out disc brakes from any car and put it on my car for temp time for safe driving? or do they have to be model specific.....oh yes, i'll be building my dash this weekend if anyone wants to help :)

Welcome to the site, umm.. whatever your name is.

You won't be able to just grab disk brakes from ANY car -- but if you can grab a set from a first-gen F-body or 68-72 A-body they should work (there's likely some other sources that can be used that I'm not thinking of at this hour). You'd need the master cylinder, proportioning valve, of course the brakes themselves, and the spindles are different for disk and drum brakes.

Ok.. here is what you have to do.. Get on a couple of different sites ,model specific, and research,,research, and finally research some more. There is a wealth of info to be had but you have to work at finding whatever it is, You found us here so Ill give you.. "team chevelle" Lateral G. and any of the parts companies. Ground up, year one, etc. Get yourself a service manual, better get a couple. But the single best thing is to listen to what others before you have found out the hard way. You will save money by paying attention ,trust me. Well good luck and read read read .. phil

thanks guys, btw the name's Thien.... This is my first time restoring a classic so I'll be sounding pretty ignorant. I have purchased a service manual and trying to make sense of everything. I'm going to make an attempt to rebuild my carb tonight, but if not....I'll just take road killerz advice and turn it into a 4 barrel....will the disc brake conversion be the best thing to do? are modern drum brakes still not good enough? I'm not turning it into a muscle monster or anything....just a car that my kids will want to take to the prom when the time comes......I'm going to try to diy for the most part, but if there are any advice that you guys can give to me.....shoot

thanks
