So, my wife's family is 100% Italian on her mother's side and french/Italian on her Father's. It has been a Christmas tradition for many generations to make Gallettes(sp?), a small thin waffle looking cookie. The press they use was originally brought to America many years ago. It is starting to show it's age.
Does anyone know where to find a new one?? All we can find are crappy electric ones, not the stove top style.
Do any of our International bretheren have any idea what I am talking about and if so, can do me a favor in locating one for me (or where I can buy one)?

Any help is really appreciated.

Some info from the tag on the current one:

My wife makes a cookie that uses a cookie press. We just got a new press this weekend at Williams-Sonoma. Is this what you're looking for?

Not it but thanks for the suggestion. This thing is like a big Checkbook with Looong handles off the side and a base that sits on the fire. I will try to get a pic of it.

You are almost dead on. Pizelle is the Italian name for the Gallette. The 3rd pic is almost it except the handles come from the top (as viewed in your 3rd pic). Hinge is on the same side. Thing is trying to find one of the older fashioned non-electric ones. In my wife's searching she actually found a Craigslist wanted ad for one in Canada. I guess the traditional style ones are really hard to find.

My Husband is almost right. A pizzelle is an Italian version of a gallette, however, it is a much thinner wafer type cookie. Most people say it is the same, but, my mom, being Italian, has said the gallette dough is thicker and may not cook properly on a pizzelle iron. Here is a link to a picture of an old fashioned gallette iron, alomst exactly like the one my grandparents have. Thank you so much for all your help!

Gaufrette Iron

Gaufrettes are a French delicacy which have become very popular with good cooks in this country. The cast aluminum iron makes a wafer with tiny waffle-like design of rich butter dough. The gaufrette, delicious on its own as a cookie is traditionally served with wine on festive occasions. You're sure to like it. 14" long including handles. Recipe is included. Made in the USA of cast aluminum.

21075 Gaufrette Iron $39.99 each

If that isn't exactly it, these people will know where to get them. Call em.

**EDIT**

Hello - I was doing a search and stumbled across your discussion. My name is Cristy and I am the grand daughter of Carmine Palmieri who started C Palmer Mfg about 70 years ago. We still sell Gallette and Pizzelle cookie irons - the number is 724-872-8200.
Thanks and Happy holidays!

.....And I found their site Click here (http://www.cpalmermfg.com/)

hope that helps.

Tony, did they really come here and find our conversation? Damn I love the net!

That is also an indication of service!

actually no. I found that quote on a "gourmet Christmas cookie" board in a thread about your exact situation.

The google is mighty. Very mighty.

here's how I did it.

I serched for ("gallette Iron" cast) in google. the quotes are important here. I was looking for a spelling error.

then, i found this site http://www.christmas-cookies.com/exchange/viewtopic.php?p=724&sid=9e91d104558db937b9cb1b1df70ee77b

dont click that.
you have to open the "cache (http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:KiER9wlqAqoJ:www.christmas-cookies.com/exchange/viewtopic.php%3Fp%3D724%26sid%3D9e91d104558db937b9 cb1b1df70ee77b+%22Gallette+Iron%22+cast&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=6)" one, cuz it's a restricted site. the page will open and you have click cancel about 100 times but then your page will load. and you can see it.
