I want to use used stock car parts, suspension,BIG brakes, quickchange, even an entire chassis is not out of the question......is anyone channelling the body down over the frame for that real hammered look like the pics below....

As long as it doesn't looked as hacked up as the cars in the first post, I think it would be cool. Definitely a street fighter if done right.
There was a featured Chevelle a few years back I absolutley envied. It was a convertible but other than me (at the time, 2000 or 2001) was the only muscle car I'd seen set up for handling and cruising. It was a rat powered, Wilwood wide5 hubbed reinforced street fighter. Used to see him at the Pasadena Fuddruckers (now torn down, a CVS pharmacy being erected in it's place, :( ). Reminds me a little of the Chevelle in Stevo's post.

Maybe things are just coming full circle. Whenever folks try to trace the true origins of pro-touring, the lowest common denominator is always race cars for the street such as Big Red. Or go further back to the La Carrera cars.

jeez......and I thought I started it all back in 85' (built in 84) with my chevelle:lmao: ...... I remember going to the wreckers and taking the front sway bar and steering box out of that 80' Trans Am......they thought I was an idiot because Id have to change the pittman arm and there was another chevelle "right over there".......and the sway bar.....well....."and what are you going to do with this??".......I said "put it on the chevelle" (parked outside) ......"Oh.....ok" he says and hands it back to me with just his fingertips like it has the plague:bsjerk: :rotfl:

Love the pics of the vette and mustang. The build I'm doing right now, has me fighting back the " make it look nice / show ". In good time she'll get a nice paint job / interior. But one of the reasons I sold my 67 was it was to perfect. Race cars are not perfect!! now mechanically is another story. Yes I want it to stand out in a crowd, but standing out at the track is what its all about. " left, right, left, power slide, slight 4 wheel drift, corner bite, trail braking " AAhhhhhhhhhhhh

Short track, I like your style. Seems everybody bent your LMSC idea into the fender flair Faux Fighter style. Too bad, you don't see new directions that often.
Visually you've got to cut the fenders with out flairing them and roll the lips so you don't cut a tire. Paint the CID on the hood and bolt on a set of white steelies with NO regard for scrub radius. You'll be rocking! Check out the Daytona Modifieds circa 1980 for some more abstract inspiration.
Nice shop. You've got a 5 months of arctic tundra to get it done. Get to work.

Pro Bell....I checked out your link at the bottom of the page.....very cool build.....if you dont mind me asking what chassis is the front end out of......?
my original plan for this chevelle was to buy an actual Cup chassis (complete roller/no body......can be bought on www.racingjunk.com for like $3500) cut the cage off and put my chevelle body on it.....put a mild cage back in
two problems with that idea.....
#1 cup chassis is 105" wheelbase some can be had at 110......chevelle is 116"......too much to hide
#2 no series up here run a truck arm chassis that I could steal parts from......the diff in the dollar and our scalding taxes make it hard to bring a chassis up here.......but there are TONS of late model series up here with lots of used stuff around that can be had for great prices.....so.....thats sort of the direction Im looking.....put on a front clip like you did......any thoughts there??
thanks doug

Hi Shortrack
The front clip is the original. We cut and modified it to be set up like a late model. I went to Norther Fabrication to build my chassis. You should talk to a local chassis guy that builds race cars in your area. I found the cost to be very competitive with the bolt on kits.
The shop could easily build you a truck arm rear suspension. Most of the part could be built in house.
Their is a Camaro on this site that built over a Cup frame. It was in project cars a wile back. I will am friends with the shop that did it. I will try to see if I can find some pic. Thanks for the complement on the car. Let me know if I can help. Randy

Id appriciate some pics of that car.......a truckarm set up would be cool and would fit the flavour of the car for sure but Im open to other ideas......I know lots of guys around here take their late models to the states and run so the chassis are probably the same.....are those chassis set ups better than a truckarm??......the Howes, Port Citys etc??......Im open......the canvas is blank......even to stock style Hotchkiss set up......ideas anyone??......but keep in mind the body will be channelled......hope this doesnt open up a big can of worms :twothumbs

Short track,
If you're looking for a good chassis to base a car off of, I'd think about an ASA chassis from Portcity or Howe. There are a bunch of them already squared up for road courses (because I don't think ASA still exists), three links with QCs and most importantly they have narrower track widths.
Regardless of the details, it's probably way easier to build a chassis from scratch to fit a camaro. Lateral Dynamics 3link, g-modded front end, paint the CID on the hood... you're rocking!

Looks good!.....thanks for the link to the Cup camaro, kewl car......too bad they're on 106 to 110" wheelbase.......wonder if you were to take one of those chassis (or any chassis for that matter) and stretch it 6" would it totally screw it up from a geometry point of view???.......or would it just handle a little slower......hmmmmmmmm

Is determined between the snout and truck arm xmbr!! You can make it what ever you want! Old style 3 link like we used to run in the late 80's or truck arm set that now is the only thing they can run! The 3 link works better in a street car for a number of reasons. Exhaust being #1!!

I've worked in Cup racing for 19 years! Your idea will work as long as you build a good cage. The frames are flexy flyers with the cage adding rigidity! Even the current cars move around like you wouldn't belive on the shaker rig!

would you reccomend welding the cage directly to the frame or welding it to the body and use solid body mounts??

Update- been making some enquires.......I have found all the local stock car tracks have "classified" sections on their websites with LOTS of parts, motors, trannys, turnkey cars or rollers for sale.......one guy has 5 cars (from various classes) and three of them are for sale "and lots of motors"......another guy is moving up a class, has a Limited Late Model (Camaro front clip car) and Late Model (full tube chassis) for sale and also "an old truck arm car I made into a showcar for malls and the like" has a nine inch, load bolts etc the thing has a motor/tranny actually drives.......price without the prestine body......"I dont know....1200 bucks"
I said I really wanted a quick change......he said....."my buddy has one......we could make a deal and put that in if you want......"
Im going to go check a bunch of this stuff out......there is about seven tracks.....all within about 3 hrs drive from here......this should be fun (and interesting).....I'll snap some pics........doug
