Hey, stop making it look better!! lol
I was going to paint the wheels but ran out of time. The silver is nice but the rough "raw" casting may be hard to keep clean. If I do paint the wheels eventually I will also paint the grill. Right now the silver grill ties in with the wheels nicely. It also breaks up the black from the hood and the black spiler.
Had a rear wing but it was about 8-inches too short to look good.
Did you re-dye the vinyl top black? Pretty sharp car.
It's a new top.. cost me $350 installed. Having someone dye the top was over $200 in time and materials.

Shaving the antenna is a no go since I would have to re-paint the fender and that would be a pain. Maybe use some sort of plug. This car NEEDS a stereo though, it's pro-cruising.. lol
Would be sad to paint the front bumper since it has absolutly flawless chrome, but it does look good in the picture. This is what I had time to do in 5 days for the story. I like though.
Next up will be figuring out the drivetrain, suspension and such.
Very Cool! That was a fun car to chop.

Has room to go lower, just didn't want to cut out more than a coil. The back with the 285s has pleanty of room. Certainly doesn't look like an $11k car..

I like all the pics so far and I like that bodystyle.
You could have a sign shop wrap the bumper in matte black vinyl.
I used a matte interior color on my spokes, easy to clean. I tried to paint them the color of brake dust to make my life easier.

I would also paint the grill black and make two oval aluminum headlight covers.
I know I sound like a broken record, but the nascar/streetfighter look goes a long way with minimal cash.

Well, I've just been tasked to make the car do 11.70s (or better) for under $20k
That means I have a bit over $9k to build an engine, trans, rear that will get that done on drag rollers.
Later we can go back and tackle suspension, brakes and all that stuff. Looks like Penny will carry the g-machine torch for now at PHR..
Now to come with the right 351 based high hp engine combo that will move two tons of Fairlane down the 1320.. on a budget.. lol

Use a 4" stroker kit and see if you can't score a deal on Edelbrock's Cleveland heads.
And for God's sake keep the chromed bumpers. The biggest gripe I have about all the new cars these days is "no chrome". But hey, I like Truck Bumpers.

Tasked to make the car run 11.70s eh?
Whatever you do, Steve, dont turn this car into a "drag" car, don't let the "powers at be" win. Make that car run those times looking the way it does. Sure, you wont have the brakes and all, but don't let them make your car a "big and littles" car. Prove to them that a pt car can run with drag cars and still carve it up.
Build a solid bottom end, and add some spray.

ixnay on the big spoiler. How about a junior version of the spoiler that Chryssos has on his Camaro...like we used on our 05 Mustang? It was just a tab of aluminum about 2" tall that fastened to the trailing edge of the decklid. Very unobtrusive, just a little kickup.

for the motor i would talk to brian at AD performance. He placed 3rd (i think) in the engine builders challenge and he is one of the largest dart suppliers. he makes some REALLY great deals on discontinued parts.
http://www.adperformance.com/
with that said i would go with a 10:1 418 stroker in a stock block, some afr 225 heads, super victor intake and a pro systems 950 carb. that combo put my mustang to 10.30 on motor and pump gas. race gas and nitrous made it really fast. I would only run 1 3/4" headers and 3" exhaust. According to joe sherman any bigger and you are wasting $$$$. you should be able to build that combo for $6000. I built mine (myself) for about $5500.
http://www.joeshermanracing.com/
if you car has a c4 now then you are set. just get a perfomace rebuild and a good (PA performance) forward manual valve body. The stall converter will be critical. you only want about a 3500 rpm or so (street use) and a LARGE LARGE LARGE (did i mention LARGE) tranny cooler. the rear just needs a locker and some gears.
http://www.performanceautomatic.com/
traction will be the biggest problem. look into some caltracs and lakewood (budget) shocks.
to get an 11.70 you may not need that much motor but the cost difference from a 383 to 418 is only a couple hundred so dont skimp ou there...

Steve, what about running a Mod motor in it? You can pick it up for cheap and it will include all the little stuff like alt, PS pump, brackets, ignition, etc. that kills budgets. Add a little bit of boost, maybe a single turbo and you would have a killer combo. And besides, PHR hasn't done a Mod motor build up in who knows how long...
It would be cool to run mid 11's without having to spray it at the last minute to meet your goals.

that combo i posted will make over that. i weighed 3200 and went 10.30 on motor and shifted at 6200 rpm. a 100 shot put me at a 9.97. that was with a 1.46 or so 60' time.
i think the hard part will be hooking that heavy ass car on drag radials. i hope you can fit some 325's under there. The micky thompson DR's are the hot ticket right now.
can you buy used parts (ebay) and sell your old parts? can you build it yourself or will you have to pay a vendor? can you use a less known shop? The guy that built my 438 is awesome i am sure he could hook you up.
Steve1968LS2

I might be able to go 295 if I NAIL the offset.. the 285's on there now are tight to the outside.
The MT's are a great tire, just hope I can get enough under there.
I can build it myself or work with a shop that wants to be in the story. I can "get" just about any part I can think of pretty easy. But, I do need to stay within the budget of the story.

personally i love the look just like it is. has nice rake without being a stinkbug, i also like the hide a way headlights.. A LOT!!! you should do that. you could probably trade somebody even for that setup in exchange for your grill since the Cobra's used the same one. other than the grille, don't touch a thing!!!!! it's perfect as is.
i vote for a mild 408 with a paxton and a built AOD and some 3.70's or 4.10's in the 9" rear. that should get you into the 11's and still fit with the PT or G amchine theme too. throw a set of 15's on the rear with some MT drag radials and you'll actually have more wheelwell clearance if you use a short/wide tire in the 26-26.5" tall range.
