I am wondering if any one makes a vertical gate style shifter for a T56, or some sort of lock out device. I have missed 3RD twice and gone into first. I have a Pro 5.0 shifter but would like to know if their is something better.

I have done many hurst Pro-Billet shifters in C5 corvettes. The shifter is spring loaded for centering. It takes some getting used to, but all you have to do is push foward for third from second. The springs push it over as you go through the neutral gate. If you try to move it over yourself while quickly shifting into third, chances are you will miss it and either hit fifth or hang up on the gate. I thought the pro 5.0 was spring loaded as well. If it is just sit in your garage and drive way and try just pushing forward and see if you end up in third. You can also practice your speed shifting while driving down the road. You don't need to be hauling ass or even let the clutch out fast. Just move the shifter quickly and see where it goes. That way less parts break.

Oh and for my Formula T56, I simply have a Lou's short stick. Works like a champ and I rarely if ever miss third. Has good feel without being stiff as spring loaded shifters can sometimes be.

Did you shim your 5.0

Thanks WS6 for the response. I will look for some one with the Hurst shifter to see the difference. Stu-Seitz I did not shim the Pro 5.0, How would I do that? Is that how you are adding spring pressure?
Thanks for the help Randy

Yeah, take out the 4 bolts holding the gold disk to the silver stand. When you take it off you will know exactly what i'm talking about.

There are two return springs one on each side of the bar that sticks strait up. Add washers on top of the springs and that will raise the spring pressure.

I wasn't completely sold on the feel of my 5.0 until I shimmed it.

As for info on other shifters for the t-56, you're best bet is to go to ls1tech.com they have about 43787423 theads with the heading, Pro 5.0 vs. B&M vs. Hurst.

haha that's very true Stuart.

Randy the hurst is very similar it sounds to the Pro 5.0. The Hurst doesn't need shims though. They come with different springs and you can adjust the springs as well. I am thinking if you adjust the settings on the Pro 5.0 you already have, it will work great for you.

Good luck

Thanks, I will try to take the shifter apart this weekend. I will keep you posted. Randy
