Is there an easy way to tell a GM cowl hood from a repro? Is there a p/n stamped in it somewhere? If anyone has a GM or repro hood lying around and can weigh it for me that would help!

I've got a cowl hood in my garage. I'll weight it tonight for you. I dunno how to tell the difference. I'm assuming you are talking about a 67 - 69 hood?

The easiest way to tell the difference is the shape of the edge at the rear of the hood at the corners of the cowl induction scoop where it hangs over the cowl. The corners are shaped different and are obvious when you know what the same area on an original GM hood looks like. The repo hood is also lighter in weight.

As far as fit, the repo hoods fit fine. If you are buildinig a PT car the repo will look, fit and work fine. It you are building a numbers resto, spend the bucks for a NOS GM hood as the difference will be obvious to an experienced Camaro weenie!

No numbers resto for me. The hood I have actually came on my 67 RSSS350, I'm replacing it with a repro SS hood. I'll have to take a picture of the back edge and see if anyone with a GM hood can compare.
