What would happen if a person were to modify a stock or aftermarket TPI intake to accept a carb.

Just for giggles

They would try and sell it on Ebay. Ive seen it done around the web but havent seen one run. Im sure it wouldnt be terrible.
Id consider it to be a tunnel ram when considering Cam specs and stuff like that because of the long runners.

It would run like doo. TPI intakes are only designed to carry air, not atomized fuel. My guess is that the fuel would drop out of suspension and puddle, causing all sorts of driveability problems, if not outright plug fouling. I won't even go into how bad the fuel distribution would be...

The supposedly EFI-only designed LSx engines make the same power with a carb as with an EFI setup.

As long as the conversion was reasonable, it would work as well as any other carbureted engine.

That's because the Lsx carb conversion uses an intake manifold designed for a carb. It has nothing to do with what type of intake the engine originally had. Put a carb on an air-only intake like with TPI and it will run like poo. Guaranteed.

BTW, any "honest" fuel injection company will tell you a properly tuned carb and a good FI setup will always make just about the same HP. The only real difference is throttle response, which is a moot point with a properly tuned carb. There is no current electronic FI technology that meters fuel based on airflow more precisely than a good carb.

What he said-intake must be designed for a carb or fuel will fall out.

I wil disagree a little on the EFI vs carb that after tuning carbs with a wide band there are limitis with the fuel curve as the different circuits interact, and there may or may not be an adequate way to change those circuits even with different jets, air bleeds acel pump squirters and cams. Whereas a few key strokes and the EFI can be changed. But with a few strokes you can screw it up easier than you probably could with most carbs. But yes power and seat of the pants with a carb that is close won't be a big change using EFI.
