Ack!

I have an ENTIRE week to finish the exterior of my Fairlane.. paint the hood, add spoilers, paint rear panel, install tires/whees, replace vinyl top, etc..

We are shooting it for a cover on the 8th.. lol.. what am I.. Overhaulin? :slap:

Anyways, trying to find tires and I just can't find what I want..

Running 17x8 front and 17x9 rear rims. I wanted a taller sidewall but everything is a 40 series for the rear. The one Nitto tire I found with a 50 series rear, but it doesn't have the right size for the front. Would it be wrong to have non-matching tread patterns? I'm thinking yes..

Want:
245/45/17 front
275/50/17 rear

Could go as high as a 255 front and 285 rear and the sidewall has some flex as well, but I can't find anything. Oh, and it would be better to find Nitto or maybe Toyo tires since they advertise.

I should have gotten 18's but I was trying to "keep it real" and not make the 15-inch wheel crowd crazy.. lol.. plus Vintage Wheel works doesn't make these V60s in an 18-inch wheel.

Why can't companies just make what we need..

The the Nitto NT450 has the perfect rear tire..

255/50R17 27.03
275/50R17 27.88

The rear tire is perfect at 27.88 tall... the front it too tall at 27.03 and would run the fender well. If the 255 came in a 245 or a 40/45 series all would be good.. lol

Mainly I'm just whining... lol

Will most likely run a 275/4017 and 245/45/17 tire.. it's a low profile world we live in..

Why not run a 235/45/17?
Is it really a bad thing to non-matching tread patterns? :dunno:
Im running 235/45s KDW's and 285/40s KDWS's.

I would believe most people would think it's a bad idea, including myself. That is, unless you have drag radials on the rear, then that's cool :jump:

if you run drag radials in the rear, people usualy give you slack. get these :P Weld Evo Axis 5 https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/12/wld705_w-1.jpg

Hey Steve, if you wanna "keep it real", consider using OE sized tires, like the 235/55/17s that are used on new Mustangs. Talk about a nice bit of sidewall...

Yea, too bad the fronts are so tall.. at 27-inches I doubt they will work...

The back is the problem.. even drag radials are 40 series..

Oh, picked up the wheels yesterday.. Vintage Wheel Works V60s..

Hell, go with the "Donk" style and put some 30" wheels/tires on it. Call it Project FairDonk

:)

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but why would it matter to run two seperate tread patterns between front and year?

Pirelli PZero Assimetrico's and Direzionale have completley different tread patterns, one set is specifically designed to be a rear tire, one a front.

I think you could get away with it... You just dont want to do your rotations funky.

yeah im running them in the back.. the fronts are smaller. they look killer in the back of the car though. plus alittle more side wall helps achieve more slip angle

I would try to get close to 26" in the front. 27" seems pretty tall.

Yea, that's the problem.. all the 27-inch tall front tires don't have a lower profile size in the same tread pattern.

I got the factory to rush me a black vinyl top.. Instead of two weeks I can pick it up Monday afternoon :woot:

I will sand the hood at Best of Show on Monday and prep it for some satin paint.

lowering the car will most likely involve a cutting torch.. or I could just heat the spings to red hot and jump on the front bumper.. :rotfl:

Purely asthetic reasons.. just sorta looks funny.

I have different tires on the front and back of my car for now because they were temporary. The tread pattern was not the problem, it was the two different compounds that bothered me at the track. On the street it drove fine.
I also want a wider tire that is 27" tall. The widest tire I can find is a 255/50/ZR17 I can fit a 335 but I can not find them in a 50 series.

335/50/17 would be over 30" tall. You'd want a 335/40/17 (27.5" tall).

Bridgestose Potenza RE750s

255/50/17 rear 27.1 inches tall perfect for a 9 inch wheel
235/45/17 front 25.4 inches tall perfect for an 8 inch wheel

I would run something like that. It will look great.

Seems so narrow when the car will fit up to a 285. lol

But, a great suggestion.. However, I am most likely funneled into Nitto.. maybe Toyo or Falken..

Hence the magazine life.. nice tires, I just need more size choices..

I am with you, We need more tire sizes made available. As far as I can tell the widest tire made that is 27" tall is the 255/50/ZR17,it has a section width of 10.4 .
I to have lots of room for a bigger tire but can not find one.
I run the 245/45/ZR17 up front and 255/50/ZR17 on the rear. I love the size and stance it gives the car.
I want the same height but can go up to a section width of 13"
I can not find a 335/40/17 that Ralph suggested, The 265/60 is 29.4" tall and only 10.6 wide.
I am open to any other thoughts. Randy

Isnt a 285 a bit wide for a 9 inch wheel?

Yea, I just meant the well can accomodate up to a 285.. I am looking at 275s... :)

Oh, According to Nitto a 285 will work on a 9-11 inch rim with 10-inches be the perfect fit..

P285/40ZR17 25.95 9.0-(10.0)-11.0

They made a 9.5 inch wheel but the offset was wrong.. the price you pay for "off the shelf" rims.
