Fast Edist +ls1 coils

Anyone tried the FAST edist and LS1 coils to get coil on plug for a distributor engine?

No ... not me. I do have the eDIST running on my LS2 by using FAST's crank simulator that pretends to be a crank trigger, plus the OEM cam sensor.

That means you will need a crank trigger setup, and a modified distributor to simulate a cam sensor. (the eDIST requires both cam and crank sensors) You might want to look around for a Hall effect cam sensor that you can hook up to your distributor ... or maybe you can modify the factory cam and front cover to put a sensor in there.

I should have specified, I have an accel dual sync, which I believe uses hall effect sensors to give cam and crank signals.
So once it syncs with the sensors, it uses the regular points trigger from the ECU to fire? Do you set the firing order with a dip swich or does it have coil 1 -8 that you put on the right cylinder?

Yes, the eDist uses dwell signal from the ECU to fire. Firing order is set by the wire A-H (ABCDEFGH in order). You just wire them to the correct cylinder. There's a trick about which letter it starts with based on the falling edge of the cam signal, but that's just something you have to figure out once, then forget (like me!).

Sounds like it will work just fine.

I believe, not 100% sure, that once the ECU determines the pisition of #1 cylinder and TDC, then the firing order is simply software defined. The wiring will have labels as to what coils need to be hooked up. The coils themselves are dumb. They simply fire when told to do so.

I only know the FAST and Holley ECUs ... and they both send dwell signal for each cylinder to fire.

The FAST XFI supports SEFI and individual cylinder timing, meaning that it does know which cylinder is being fired (and obviously the firing order), and so what it does is alter the dwell when it's that cylinder's turn. But the actual firing order is determined by the wires A-H from the eDIST. I'm sure it's a good idea for the firing order entered into XFI's engine parameters to match the hard wiring done by the eDIST which matches the actual firing order. :)

I can see a future FAST product that supports the direct firing of the coils without the need for the eDIST. They've already combined the crank decoder and eDIST into the eDIST2, and I'll bet somewhere they've got an XFI2 with direct coil support.

There's an EFI setup called Pantera that actually directly supports firing the coils ... though it's a waste spark setup and doesn't work on the OEM LS1 coils.

Thanks for the pointers. I am going to try the edist. I found the intructions on fast's site after some digging. The dual sync's output is correct.
